Fell out of this book, but House of the Dragon makes me want to ground myself back in Westeros again. This book is definitely not for everyone, but if you are in interested in fake history, its a wonderful read.

Skipping around this book and I am finding it very valuable as a songwriter. A great entryway to songwriters I may have heard of but never explored and an amazing resource for songwriters discussing their work. Paul Simon and Pete Seeger chapters are amazing. Really inspiring.

This book really is a slog for me. I am having a lot of trouble wanting to pick it up although the writing is good. I keep losing track of what is going on inbetween sessions. Was hoping to be more sucked in but the pacing of this novel is just not exciting for my brain. May finish out of stubborness.

“Manuscripts […] remind us that what we remember of the past is uneven. There some famous figures in this book, but there are also infamous one who might deserve better renown. […] We know nothing about these people- where they lived and died, or where they came from, let alone their names. But we have their work.”

A little skeptical of some of the claims Hans Rosling makes, especially in light of environmental destruction and our current system of resource depletion, but this is a fascinating book that points out our psychological tendencies to see things negatively.

Reading this book is taxing. Trying to imagine the impossible smallness of an electron, and the confusing nature of particle physics as opposed to normal-sized physics is mind-boggling. Committing the very colorful and eccentric people that appear in this book to memory seems impossible. I already feel like I need to reread this book. Mightily enjoyable, though.

Really moving descriptions of the mindset of poverty and the social factors that exacerbate it. Orwell also has a beautiful way of describing the various destitute people he meets that make them come alive.

My fears that this book entitled “His Excellency” would hold Washington to an elevated and sacrosanct treatment were quickly quelled. Impressively researched and interesting to read.
