dragon hogwarts was wrong - this is a dragon-Twilight/hunger games mashup…. Dane is werewolf guy and zaden is vampire guy and we’re supposed to flow with the infatuation of two awful choices bc they are “hot.” Dane is more destructive to her than people who actively want her dead. everything is trying to kill these kids & the adults are totally fine with it.

So far: The character names 🙄 The info dumps 🙄 The “send children to dragon hogwarts & weed them out by attrition” 🙄 The obvious-soon-to-be-love-interest of the MC 🙄
And the current love interest bff 🙄 - she needs to shake him off before he psychs her out & gets her killed with constant “I don’t think you can do it let me save you” infantilizing nonsense. yuck.

I'm going to crawl out of my skin with every intimate scene in the book or line of dialogue from the male character (ugh, revolting), but it's making me reflect on all the 'special attention' over the years from men who took a "special interest" in my well being and how vomity that makes me today. I am grateful it never amounted to more than an icky feeling in adulthood.

The quote at the start about unexpected tragedy? It's like getting on a roller coaster (which I already know is dangerous) & having the attendant say: "That support is loose, you may die today. OK HAVE FUN!" I should be numb to "Outlander Anxiety" by book 9, but nope - even though I think the incident the quote referred to has come and gone, there are boogeymen everywhere.

I'm struggling w/the audiobook. The narrator is doing the verbal equivalent of highlighting (in bright yellow) the eye-rolley bits & adding large BOLD font. I bought it, so I'm going to struggle through, but so far, this is best listened to while doing chores alone in the house so no one is startled by random snarky comments, eye rolling, & huffs of annoyed laughter. I hope this gets better.

I guess this falls into the "take what works, discard the rest" - there's some weird stuff in here (why parenting tips? shouldn't that be a different book?), some odd metaphors, and some useful tips. Glad it was a library loan vs. a purchase.

I thought Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever was an unsympathetic character, but Bard and Paul make him look like a decent guy (he is not...that...)... yiiikes... this book is full of rape and a sociopath MC who justifies his horrible behavior with a fingersnap of crappy rationalization. Please tell me he gets what's coming to him...
