This is awesome. If you like Joe Abercrombie and Scott Lynch, you’ll probably like this.

I like the kid - but how can’t you count to 7 at 7 yrs old, kid?
Misery, he’s a werewolf. Know what canines have? Super snoots. You should definitely touch everything in that room and randomly run your fingers over things.
Also, you call yourself a hacker and can’t get your laptop connected to the internet? really? Ok, go write some code I guess. 🙄

I have such mixed feelings about this book - in some ways I still really love it, in other ways it is dry as a sawdust smoothie. So conflicted.

Definitely drags in areas - but to be fair to the book, this is best listened to when doing something that allows "full ears" - walking, gardening, painting, etc. Cooking, driving, etc. have necessary distractions and I miss things that are necessary - so I've had to rewind a few times.

I am LOVING this book - each simulation they fall into is like a short science fiction story on its own!

I should know by now to expect a few brutal deaths in an Abraham Verghese book. Woof.

It's a great book, but I do not recommend it in audio. The reader gets performative & in doing so, she inserts tone that implies idiocy in a speaker, or a sneer at their beliefs or something they're doing. Read alone on the page, the words would have been more neutral, for me, so I feel like the her performance undermined the attempted neutrality of Hochschild's work.

Quirky, but cozy. I'm enjoying this.
