This author really has a knack for using the reader’s outside perspective as a tool - the horror isn’t only the action happening or how gruesome it is, but the implications of that action.

One scene left me sitting there with my mouth hanging open in shock.

Ooo ok this is gruesome and dark and it has some really disturbing moments for animals that I’ll list in spoilers later w/o details. it also has moments that are darkly funny and I LOVE the premise of this story. The bar parking lot scene hooked me. It’s been keeping me interested so far - I’ll see how the rest goes.

At one point, he starts talking about his father and the walk to New Orleans with his dog... and when he mentioned the dog's name, I recognized it...then he said his dad's name and ...I recognized that...and realized I'd read his father's book, A Walk Across America, in high school. Weeeeeird full circle moment there.

On the kindle, so I keep trying to read it before I go to sleep - but it wakes me up, so it is temporarily quasi-shelved until I get time to read during daylight hours.

The humor is not always my style, but there are some random laugh out loud moments that catch me off guard. I loved the segment of comments from her blog on mortifying moments. Is it chapter 9 or 10 that she writes the letter to her health insurance? That was perfect and amazing and heartbreaking and so absolutely true and relatable.

Red flags popping up. Lots of useful info, but also biases color writing - esp w/"fight" types/subtypes. Demonizes parents w/o acknowledging generational trauma. Language doesn't seem to acknowledge a spectrum of experience - it's all parents, rather than parents + other early caregivers, experiences. Could say: "here are resources to help you w/parent relationships.." Info good, but clouded w/biases

This is all over the place - but in a good way. Snow Crash meets Alice in Wonderland meets... all kinds of stuff...some Game of Thrones, probably some William Gibson...
