I know this isn't on the book itself (which I am loving by the way) and I mean this as a term of endearment, but I lowkey hate how topical this book is with the coronavirus going around

So I'm about 1/5th through this, and I find this to be a little weird. First, there is a lot of explanations of the world-which is weird considering you have to read the TID series before this. Second, this book has felt kinda slow starting out because not much in terms of plot happens (but where I stopped it looks like things will pick up).

I'm going to finish this by audiobook by tonight, but I have this theory that I just feel the need to mention (for those who have read the book, and I will/may elaborate in my review): I believe that, either by the end of this book or in the beginnings of Ensnared, Morpheus will lose his life magic. There are a million reasons why, but it's mostly about his relationship to Alyssa so there can be actual trust built

About halfway through the book, and I have to say this: the wilting and falling sections feel like a continuation of milk and honey, and the rooting part (so far) is more about her family and immigration (which I like a lot because it feels different and what I was expecting going into this)

I'm not going to be reading this in sequential order because of the different sections and I want to be in certain moods for those sections. But the one I read is very good and so far I love Cortney Peppernell's writing style

The Whitechapel Fiend - 4/5 stars: Just like the last one, I enjoyed it and it was nice to enjoy a tale with Tessa and Will (and between TID and TLH series). However, it was hard for me to pay attention at a couple of points and didn't stand out as much to me-this wasn't really about Simon like the other two stories were.

The Lost Herondale: 4/5 stars - I enjoyed this, but I felt like the main drive/point of this novella was to get to learn the story about the Lost Herondale (which does play into TDA) and the ending bit. It wasn't bad, but that's what I noticed.

Welcome to Shadowhunter Academy - 4.5/5 stars: A great start to this novella collection! I loved getting introduced to the new characters, seeing a bit of the aftermath from COHF (with some threads of the TDA series), and of course Simon's voice was so fun to listen to! I'm looking forward to the rest of the novellas.

I don't know exactly how far I am in this, since I'm listening to this on audiobook, but I don't think I've ever been more frustrated by the protagonist of a Kasie West book before this one. She is so set in her mind and feels a little condescending about her goals and to Andrew. If it was the beginning of the book I'd be fine with it, but I'm about 1/3 of the way through and I'm getting so annoyed it's close to DNF

A pretty fun novella that made my Malec heart very happy to listen to.

Last Stand of the New York Institute: 4.5/5 stars
Probably my favorite so far, in contrast to the last one. I feel like because this one feels almost like a prequel to the TMI series that I loved reading this one and seeing how certain characters were before the events of that series. Although I was a little thrown off by the time since the last one took place during the TMI series

Shadowhunter Who Has Everything - 3/5 stars
Probably my least favorite one so far. I think it was supposed to be a really light-hearted and fun novella, but it was kind of boring to me. It had cute moments, but compared to the others nothing really happened in this.

Another enjoyable one, not too much to say about this one. But I do find curious that for both this one and the Rise is that neither are focused too heavily on the hotel itself, but rather how they ended up in particular ways in certain times

Saving Raphael Santiago: 4/5 stars
Enjoyable, and it was nice to see Raphael when he just became a vampire. Even though it's been over five years since I've read COHF (which makes me feel old), I still remember there was a moment between Magnus and Raphael, and I was thinking about that the entire time listening to this novella.

If I wasn't doing Camp NaNoWriMo this July, I would have been a lot more successful at Reading Rush than I am in actuality. But despite my slow and kinda-failed plans, I like the progress I've made with prioritizing reading more than I have for most of this year.

The Rise of Hotel Dumort - 3.5/5 stars
Same as most of the other novellas that it was good, but I don't feel strongly toward this. But listening to this made me realize that, during the Roaring Twenties, it would be really interesting if there was a crossover between The Diviners and Shadowhunters, particularly with the Downworld.
