I love Jane.

On the one hand, I appreciate that the heroine acknowledges that she tends to charge into things without thinking them through. On the other hand...she keeps doing it.

When will the murderous ass get eaten by the monster? I want some karmic payback, especially after the monster tore up one of the sailors I liked.

I have to finish this book just so I can ease my mind that at least one of these poor men got to see sunshine and blue sky and green grass again. The constant slog across ice and snow and barren land is as exhausting for the reader, too.

If only they could hear me yelling "NO THAT'S A BAD PLAN DON'T DO THAT AUGH" from the comfort of my 70F office.

I'm glad I'm reading this in spring, with sunshine and green grass and daffodils right outside my window. I think I would have psychosomatic frostbite otherwise.

Because The King's Peace has two spine-splits, a gnawed cover, and loose pages. And also because I want some murderous magic today...

Someone please make me a 4-hour miniseries of this book, with Sam Heughan as Iain and Elizabeth Debicki as Vivien and Emily Blunt as Julia/Mariana and someone dark and dashing and British as de Mornay. Please. I NEED IT.

How can there be this much sexual tension between two people after 94 pages? It's completely believable and scorchingly intense. The book may catch on fire if they actually have sex.

A tiny bit tired of "Oh dear, I seem to have imprinted/soulbonded/fallen in inconvenient like with the person who wants me dead", but it's the least important of the plot threads, and the beautiful worldbuilding more than makes up for it.

Named your son "Pax", did you? I'm sure that's not going to turn out to be painfully ironic at all.

I'm enjoying the book, I am...but one of my absolute least favorite tropes has been brought into play not once, but twice. And it's an outdated, racist trope too. I thought Lisa Kleypas was better than this.

Do I read the book about unhygenic Victorian London and the ravages of cholera over lunch?...

The chapter on Eleanor Roosevelt is making me giggle and cringe simultaneously. Chipped beef on toast in the White House in the name of economy! Prune pudding! And when the housekeeper/cook felt like being fancy, she'd check one of her ladies' magazines, and whip up some Seafood Surprise or Ham Hawaiian. Dyed-green whipped cream and gelatin molds as far as the eye could see...

I had a horrible day, and Miriam Black suits my mood right now. *snarls inchoately at world in general*

These two are so heckin' adorable. The only reason I don't want them to go at it like bunnies is because they're currently lost on a moor and have more pressing problems--but as soon as you two kids find an abandoned gamekeeper's hut or something, the clothes need to come off.

Enjoying book. Hating the cover art. I am fully aware that a portion of the appeal of UF is hot chicks kicking butt, but I really, really hate that the cover is Merit's leather-clad ass and half-exposed back with no face attached. Way to depersonalize your protagonist.

I'm going to keep reading. But--

Prologue Protagonist--Sure, I'll follow this trail of bioluminescent fungi into the depths of the Amazon, even though I'm a mycologist and should know better!

Protagonist--I'm a 21-year-old white male who flunked out of three colleges because I'm too clever for higher ed, but I'm applying for a job at the NSA out of sheer chutzpah!

This book is the perfect blend of weird, wry, dark and smart. I am actually upset that I had to leave my e-reader at home, because I want to keep reading. Also, Jon Bernthal as Clay, Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Mathris, Taika Waititi as Moog, and I'm still musing about Gabe. Need a middle-aged blond...

I am on team Fanny Price. As for everybody else (and I include so-clueless Edmund)--EAT THE RICH.

Because I have a cold and suddenly I want romance. I also am amused by Our Heroine, whose father married an actress and ruined any chance for his children to have social status, thus leaving her determined to marry well because she deserves nice things, dammit.

Well, I went from "Hello, protagonists" on page 1 to "WON'T SOMEONE HELP MY SMOL WIZARD SON AND HIS BLIND MENTOR?!" by page 60, so well done, Ms. Hambly.
