I am already a little in love with this book due to the page-and-a-half in the back of other YA regency/magical books and how the author got permission to reference their characters. Jack of Faber Shipping, represent!

The plot is more reliant than it should be on Hannah's Manic Pixie Dreamgirlishness charming everyone, but I am drawn in regardless. Curse my weakness for mistaken-identity romantic comedies!

Liking this so far, but here's a hint, if you're trying to hide the fact that your kid was fathered by a Roman gladiator whom you (as a time traveler) should not have been banging, don't name him Farway Gaius.

Done with Book 1, will pause to whittle down the library pile before diving into Book 2. I love Paks. I also love that she is explicitly asexual (not using the word itself, but clearly ace) and is here to fight for honor and justice and maaaaaybe for the sake of St. Gird, not to fall in love with anyone.

So I don't know why I was convinced this was fantasy, it's weird historical fiction set in Scandinavia in the 1500s full of death and crazy royals and syphilis. I like it.

It's hitting all the right Connie-Willis-style notes--academic time-travel, the many minute struggles of trying to fit into a different society, tongue-tied awe when meeting a Famous Personage. Greatly enjoying it.

Look, I like this series and am enjoying the book, but the world-devouring darkness is going to be defeated by The Power of Love, isn't it? I feel like that's what we're working towards.

Oh, you precious children. This book is going to be a two-hankie read by the end, I can tell.

The language is lush, and the storytelling borders on Epic Drama--but when you're a teenage boy in desperate love with someone you know will only be in your life for a little while, that could reasonably be construed as Epic Drama.

This book is gleeful trash--the descriptor of "50 Shades meets Dexter" complete with superdramatic 21-year-old murderbabe-camgirl heroine is 100% accurate. I love it. Murder that pedophile, sweetie, sate your bloody urges on his sorry ass.

On the one hand, I love Sera's interactions with her sisters, and her smoldering tension with Malcolm. On the other hand...Malcolm is an ass.

I appreciate that there's no detailed rehash of the events of The Glittering Court--we get one or two previously-done scenes from Mira's perspective, but Mira's agenda and her own plot arc are foremost.

Um, heroine? You've already firmly established that this guy is really working the, as you put it, slightly-shaggy-Sons-of-Anarchy-look. You've also noted several times that he's blond and blue-eyed and looks good in a T-shirt. Honey, he's Charlie Hunnam, and if you don't climb that man like a tree, I volunteer to do it for you.

I have a weakness for "Oh, I seem to be dying, so I'm going to say what I think and do what I've always wanted, and my sanctimonious family can go hang" stories. Give 'em heck, Valancy!
