Anticipation Of A New Lover's Arrival, The

The Affront are really fun. I can't remember if they are in the rest of the story or just here at the start. I hope they show up again before the very end (where I remember them again).

Juliane got the German version from the library, so we're starting the Culture Novel Readalong up again!

Recommended to me by the narrator, Simon Vance. It's a lot of fun so far!

Thank fuck that after a pause for 20% of the book while Locke and Jean learn how to a sail a boat, the story seems to have resumed. Or, at least, a new story seems to have begun. Did someone forget to tell Scott Lynch he was writing a single novel, not two novels smashed together?

Despite the total lack of explanation about how fundamental laws of physics can be broken or bent so easily, I'm enjoying this one much more than Software.

I thought there were going to be pirates in this novel. Where are the pirates? I'm sure I'll get to them soon. Right?

I like how the second book in the series deals with the fallout of the first book, physically, emotionally and dramatically.

Has Rudy Rucker never heard of entropy? Just like at the beginning of Postsingular, you can't just take stuff apart and put it back together, at least not without energy and stored information. And the information needed to store all the data that makes up a planet would be take something the size of a planet. Same with humans.

"then" != "then". And many, many other problems.

"He went further along... and came back" Along what? Back down what? Super passive and imprecise writing makes Luke annoyed.

It's a kindle ebbok with four novels in it. The first novel takes up 17% of the total, and I'm 7% of the way through the total. So... about 40%.

How depressing.

Okay, the story has really kicked in. It's a pity I was advised to start reading Neal Asher here though, as I have a strong feeling all these characters are referring to events in previous books. That or the world building and back story is strong but misfocused.

Chugging along. I can't wait for the story and action to really kick in. Fun character, though it feels like I'm missing a lot of their backstories and what makes them so cool.

Going okay. It feels like the middle of a story.

Listening to this one as an audiobook with Juliane during car journeys. It's really, really good.

At this point, half way through the last book in the trilogy, the main character from the opening of book finally does something important.

Finally we find out/have confirmed Luthar's role in the whole story.
