FINALLY, and exceedingly belatedly, managed to watch The Abominable Bride; fantastic, as always, and all I have to say is more Sherlock in the 19th century, please.

It suddenly occurs to me that I'm probably not an orgy kind of guy.

It's far too hot and sunny outside to be reading about the London particular in November; why can't the weather cooperate with whatever I happen to be reading at the moment, dammit? You're supposed to be setting the mood to get (literarily) busy, Mother Nature, not reminding me there's (metaphorical) dishes to be done.

Ah, it's good to be on the trail of mystery and adventure with Messrs. Doyle and Wilde once again. If this is anywhere close to as much fun as The Revenant of Thraxton Hall, which was pretty bang up to the elephant, my parish pick-axe will be the most prominent feature on my gigglemug.

Well, I certainly didn't see THAT twist coming (then again, I was shocked when I found out that ALF was just some guy in a suit...I mean, he looked so real!...so maybe my surprise radar is somewhat less well developed than other people's).

It's mind-boggling how long we went without making any real advances in medicine. But, kind of awesome that we had dudes whose jobs consisted of cutting people's hair, shaving their beards, and then cutting off diseased limbs.

Whoa. Things just got creepy. Even Oscar Wilde is spooked, and not just because there might be dirt on his lapel.

Things I would prefer to not have happen to me: being roasted alive on an oar ("roasted alive" is a funny phrase...I mean, really, the guy in question here was roasted dead; he just happened to be alive when it started).

Is it bad that as I read about conflicts raging between Venice and Genoa, all I can think about is how much I want some salami?
