I think Henry Irving is Victorian Mr. Burns. And Stoker is the Victorian Waylon Smithers.

So, Captain America got taken down by a PR guy; that seems frighteningly prescient for a story written in the early 1970s.

Always a joy when I get to spend time with my old pal Bob. When you read more than 50 books by an author you've been reading for 25 years, there's just something delightfully comforting about sinking into their prose and their worlds yet again...

It's somewhat baffling how an insufferable douche bag like Henry Irving, someone who apparently wasn't even all that gifted at his chosen profession, achieved notable success by sheer force of character...and, well, ass holery.

Oh, wait--that's not baffling; that's just how things work. Silly me.

Using Fables as a comp is a double-edged sword: on the one hand, it's undoubtedly going to pique my interest, Fables being my all-time favorite comic. On the other, it damn well better be good. And on the third hand, I either need to learn math or have a handectomy, because I've got too many of those things.

I've read a lot of stuff about the Victorian age and if I've taken anything away from all that reading, it's that people 1) were mortified at the thought of talking about sex; and 2) were having sexy with pretty much anything and everything one can have sex with, or at least wishing they were and writing opaque and longing missives about it.

It's ridiculous that Alex hasn't yet run into or gone on a date with Zack Morris. That had better change or this is so getting one star.

(For those who aren't SBTB obsessives, Zack got a 1502 on his SATs and his mom made him apply to Yale.)

Look at you, Bram, writing saucy letters in verse to Walt Whitman and sort of but not really but kind of really implying that you wanted him to come mow YOUR leaves of grass...

You think Iceman's ever like, "Dammit, I HATE Spider-Man--he's me, but way smarter, and like 14% funnier. And like 7% handsomer."

That's how I feel about David Spade.

There's like zero character stuff going on here (which is the best part of X-Men), and yet I'm intrigued and vastly annoyed that I don't have time to just plow through the last 300 pages tonight.

For some reason, this isn't hitting me in the same spot Chabon usually does. (That spot, incidentally, is just below the thorax.)

Having heard wildly varying things about this series, I'm happy that, 50 pages in, I'm still very interested to read more (especially since there are like 400 more pages to go).
