A tangent into Wikipedia. “Epigraphs first became popular in Europe during the early eighteenth century, accompanying the rise of a literate middle-class. Before this time, to be literate meant one was familiar with the classical tradition. …Authors did not need to tie themselves to previous works with an epigraph because readers were assumed to make connections themselves.”

Good lord, Brodie is only 33? I though she was in her seventies.

Odd. A man exposes himself to one of the high school girls. It’s quickly forgotten by the author. It seems to only function as a reason for the girls to glimpse the policewoman. I’m curious at why the author is telling the girls to “forget it.”

First, I thought Miss Brodie was a noble rebel. Now I’m thinking she’s just flippant.

Someone actually published this. Simon & Schuster! Crazy. — “Then she stands there and howls, with an echo that will never fall silent in her heart.”

It would have been more interesting if the book had started with and followed this out-of-place paragraph (suddenly in first person for some reason?).

Does the author realize he just got his arm and ribs broken, but the police don’t pick up on any clues, like visual observation? Also, his mom seems pretty chill, too?

You how hard is it to pull a sink off a wall, including the welded/fastened pipes, wall studs, and bolts? This book is nuts sometimes.

1. Dear author, that’s not what hypocrisy means. 2. He let a stranger teach his daughter how to ride a bike? That’s weird.

I don’t get Jeanette. Maybe she’s a first year teacher? At first I thought she must be a naïve out-of-towner, but that was debunked.

I had a rommate in college who made a film for film school which had the same midpoint crisis. He thought he was pretty clever too. What is this book about? We’re halfway in. A 2019 study 182k students said female undergraduates had a rate of 25.9%. One in four. Gretzky only scored 17.6% of the shots he took.

Are blouse buttons different from…regular buttons? Can’t blouses have different kinds of buttons? How can you pick up a random button and know it’s from a blouse?

I would’ve thought Kira would be more apprehensive with her teenage daughter going out to party with boys. Although we’ve spent so many pages on her philosophy on Beartown and hockey that I have no idea what kind of mom she is.
