This book is the narrator constantly explaining something. She analyzes the main character being overly analytical.

A idea of Season reminds me of the dragons of Pern.

The simple present is odd in this book.

Also, it wouldn’t be Fantasy without someone or everything trying to kill the MC. I’m tired of this plot.

I don’t know what the author is trying to say by having Thornmallow have such a wild mood swing. From telling himself he’ll be the greatest wizard to deciding he’ll never be a wizard. Aren’t you already a wizard just for doing magic? Do you need a certificate? Magister Hickory said even if you fail, you can be a hedge wizard.

Learning these important rules by trial and error seems ludicrous.

Wow, did the author just take the magic system from A Wizard of Earthsea?

A bit strange teaching kids Curses, isn’t it? Milkweed losing a toe is a little gruesome. And with no restoration? Rowling would have made the restoration of the toe in a joke, but here toe remains mutilated.

The same Great Hall but kids stand at a distance on a balcony. Ominous. Detached.

I don’t understand these inside jokes. Also, these magic rules really take the fun out. You can only change the appearance of things in your first year? Even first year transfiguration class had a little transfiguration, although it was more of a funny joke.
