I’m starting to like this in style of a telling a story through interviews. It’s really what it is

On one hand this person is trite, but I do like the Juxtaposition of a labor writer hating unions. I would have preferred a financial section writer who hates capitalism, that would’ve been much rarer and interesting, but that’s OK.

Maddie remembers the color of the sofa she had 18 years before. This is something that bothers me sometimes about certain books: when someone’s memory is perfect for the sake of detail and verisimilitude.

Maddie tells Mr. Marshal she doesn’t keep the letters, and then after the meeting she brings him the letter?

I want this author to remember the atmosphere of America in the 1960s a little better. Sure, I wasn’t there, but 1963 was when the Baptist Church in Alabama was bombed. 1965, Bloody Sunday in Alabama. The riots of 1967. Etc. Etc.

So, now, we’re on the New Job plot structure.

I’ve had conversations with family members and they describe to me that getting divorced back in the 60s, in certain circles, would open a woman’s life to ridicule, condemnation, and aggressive male attention. I wonder if this book will reflect that. As of now it’s reading more like the 1980s than the 1960s.
