The more I read about baseball from people who actually know baseball, the more I realize I know very little about the game I love. But, the more I realize this, the more I absorb what I'm reading and the more I learn. What a devilishly wonderful cycle.

So far, 3 people seeing me read this book have said they didn't like it. How do you not like this book? This is practically "Catcher in the Rye" for the Moroccan set. Meursault is the epitome of apathy. I actually prefer it to Salinger's overblown work. Camus's descriptive power allows you to actually feel the heat of Algiers as it wafts up from the street. It's blessed writing.

I just love this period stuff. Particularly periods of the late 20s through early 40s. The focus on the subtleties of the class system and the inherent style of the characters is always exciting. Great dialogue in this one as well.

Grad school makes reading for pleasure slow and difficult.

End of book I. Somewhat repetitive in verse, rather like opera translations. Interesting, though.

Difficult, but incredibly engaging read. I somewhat desire to read it in it's original Latin, but not enough to really learn that particular language. Excited to read more.

An easy enjoyable read, but daunting because of its length. Slowly progressing.

Not a great read, but not terrible. Very dated. Would be interested to have a book like this written from today's perspective.

Interesting so far in its historical context. Not so interesting in its content. We'll see how it goes.

Okat, so clearly this book is difficult for me to put down, and honestly, I don't know why. It's very well written and the stories are heartbreaking and difficult and engaging, and even sometimes funny, but I think I expected to care less about the subject matter, and I don't which confuses me a little. I suppose my faith journet has not neared an end as of yet.

Clearly an intriguing read as I've read almost 100 pages today in a few short interrupted hours. Some incredible writing and amazing life stories.

Amazing, the amount of information we take for granted when we pick up a can of insecticide. A little slow in parts, but a terrifically interesting read.

This just finishes the prologue and introduction of characters, notes by the translators, and a biography of Tolstoy. I've wanted to read this since I saw the Louisville Ballet perform Anna Karenina a few years ago. Looking forward to it.

It's frightening, and the thing is, I'm not sure we've learned anything from it...or if we have, we seem to be woefully nonchalant about it.

This is truly a masterpiece for Mistry. What an incredible cast of characters set in a devastating period of Indian history. Beautiful, sorrowful tale.

This is such a well-written book. At times sad, happy, frustrating, confusing, joyful, exhilarating...the characters are all very interesting and I feel like I know all of them.

Richly detailed and wonderful character development. Even though the stories are mildly depressing, they are well written.
