I'm enjoying the grandfather's stories.

I'm finding this book providing some interesting information, however, it's really spread out. I find the writing to be dry most of the time.

I'm not all that thrilled with this book as everyone else seems to be. May drop it...

I've been pairing this with Last Days of Old Beijing. It's an intersting contrast. If I hadn't done the pairing, I may have very well dropped the book by now...

"When I grow up I want to be a foreigner!" (p. 23). I loved his description about teaching directions and having his students draw maps in class. So far, he's been pretty authentic to the idea of living in China, as well as the ideas behind working in a classroom. I love the smattering of history tidbits that he's adding as well, so far, it's been a charming read. Looking forward to continuing through the book.
