I feel like the author is really trying to hard to please a variety of readers with this book. There is such a vast approach of part historical fiction, part fantasy, the science and female protagonist crowd that she's really loosing out. The story is finally starting to pick up for me. I'll give it about 50 more pages before I bag it or keep reading

I may ditch this book because the writing style isn't catching my fancy, and the fact that she has to make up trees (while I know it's fiction) I find to be a bit of a stretch for a book about lumberjacks etc
