I'm finding that the prose of this book is excellent, however there isn't much dialouge. I'm finding it reads more as a love letter, or almost as if the narrator is speaking to the dead. We'll see how much I tolerate it, should be a quick read

I picked up this book, mostly because my mom liked it, and the last fiction book she said I would like, I was hesitant on, and she said I wouldn't like this one. All the more reason to try it.

This book is really frustrating me. I told my sister I'd read it, but Kate, the main character is just making the same dumb mistakes constantly, and the book is pretty predictable, which isn't saying much as I tend to be pretty dense when it comes to literary devices. I've liked jogging my memory with the Paris descriptions, that's about all that's kept me going on this book or I'd moved to a new book ages ago.

I find it annoying that they include the dictionary as part of the page count.

Lara is reading Flight Behavior
Took awhile to get into this, my mom recommended it, however didn't get to finish it, as there was a hold on it at the library, it's going on the back burner until I get it back again...

I am highly considering dropping this book. After living abroad myself with my own demons, I feel she uses too much of this book to bitch and moan. While I can certainly appreciate the hardships she's gone through but the presentation of her case through her poor choice of language and writing ability. I'm surprised she was even let into the Peace Corps for that matter, let alone actually finish and write about it

She's really all over the place in what she includes in this book ranging from letters, poems, and narratives about her stay as a Peace Corps Volunteer. Certainly not among the better Peace Corps books I've read (Peter Hessler stole that bag)...I think I am going to pick and choose segments I read for the rest of the book, I don't really like her poems, her narratives are certainly her strongest point of writing...

I think the perspective is interesting, however, I think this is a case where I already know to much of the back story to really get into it, I'm probably going to drop it... certainly a good book for kids that don't know much about the discovery of the Antarctic...

This was a book suggested by Goodreads per what was on my 2012 shelf. I've gotten about half way through, I'm going to read another 50 pages or so... I enjoyed it through the first 50-75 pages, but I'm finding some of it just to be irritating...

I think this will basically be the buffer for when I finish a book and need to clear my brain... don't have much of the book left, but think it's a vastly over-rated book

While this book has been enjoyable, I think it would have been better as a novel in short stories and have the book divided in sections of the 3 major charachters instead and I think it would be an even more effective story. Also hard saying that he stretched the actual events to make the novel plausible... lost some points with that. I think it would have also helped had I known more historically about the region.
