Meanwhile after rands assembly Naenaeve and Elayne (and Thom and some bodyguard guy) get on a seafolk boat to Tanchico to try and catch black ajah. Elayne discovers sea folk can channel wind to move boats fast. Seafolk all go topless and its weird. Meanwhile in Tanchico city is f'd up (poor and decrepid, leader was assassinated?) and white cloaks and Black ajah are having meetings in fine restaurants.

He asks to be free of Aes sedai they give him a spear thing but also kill him/hang him. Rand comes out of vision area and saves matt. Aiel girl Avienda also went in to become wise woman. Moraine also went in but we dont know what she did. Rand gets double branded as head Aiel. They begin to travel to Aiel meeting place but meet some weird peddlers and more trollocs. Egwene is learning dreaming from wise ones.

Rand puts magic sword Callendor back in stone while hes gone. All Aiel and Rand, Moraine, Egwene, Matt go to magic Aiel city Rhuidan. Some Aiel pissed bc Rand a foreigner going in sacred city. Rand and Matt go, Rand endures 'the history of Aiel through visions'- apparently they were supposed to be like the peaceful gypsys but turned violent. Matt skips the history part but finds another magic door to snake ppl

Back at Tear there had been a big trolloc attack one night. There's a magic door in the basement leading to a world wSnake people who answer questions. Matt, Moraine, Rand went in separately. Rand holds an assembly says (new labor laws and) hes going to Aiel city Rhuidan. Egwene has to go too bc Aiel wise ones can teach her dreaming there. Matt too bc snake ppl told him has to go in there and find/marry some girl.

(cont) they escape Ways just in time from Trollocs and the black wind. At 2Rivers Perrin's whole family has already been killed and he cries to Faile about it. Trollocs are attacking towns but whitecloaks fend them off. Matt and Rands dads are in hiding w/2 random aes sedai (Verin and Alanna). Perrin rallies everyone to free captives (matts sisters/mom) from the whitecloaks. They break them out of camp.

(cont) Elayne starts making out w Rand, Egwene decides she doesn't care. All have Aiel friends. They discover whitecloaks are attacking 2Rivers because one hates Perrin specifically. Perrin decides to go home and save his family. Faile wants to come but he thinks its dangerous for her. They get in a weird fight and travel w/Loial (and 3 Aiel) through the Ways but not really speaking/always in 2 groups.

Spoiler Summary: Rand rules Tear and hates the nobles. He lives in the penthouse reading old library books and making laws about more labour/peasant rights. Matt gambles, Perrin chills w/Faile. There is a random evil magic attack on all 3 because the dark ones prison is opening (bubbles of evil are drawingto them? Idk.) the other 2 think it's Rand sucking at channeling but it's not.

SPOILERS cont. 3 girls boat get stuck, they go on (civil war torn) land. Make some new Aiel friends (spear maidens) and learn culture. Get captured, get rescued by Aiel friends. // Perrin Lan Moraine stop at an inn, they have an Aiel in a cage. Perrin lets him out at night, they have to flee town. Girl sees and follows him on their boat. She's Faile his future wife I remember from before.

SPOILERS cont. They literally have NO training/self taught. They give Matt a pass to run out and bring letter to Elaynes mom, Queen M. Matt is on an unnatural luck streak w/gambling. Evades murder, finds drunk Thom in an inn. Takes him with on a boat to Caemlyn. Refugees everywhere from Carnhein. // 3Girls going to Tear now hunting black Ajah. Egwene learning to be dreamer. (Perrin too w/wolf friend Hopper.)

SPOILERS cont. The 3 girls (Egw. Ela. Nae.) plus Matt go back to Tar Valon b.c Matts sick and dying from dagger. They get back but everyones mad at them for "running away" even though it was Liandrin kidnapping them. Liandrin and other black ajah already killed people and left. Amerlyn says 'girls you're the only ones who can stop them, you all get to level up and go hunt them down k bye.'

SPOILERS I'd better post my plot summaries or I will forget what happened. Rand, Perrin, Min, Moraine, Lan are camping. Rand's grumpy b/c he has to be dragon reborn and no one can teach him to channel. He has an earthquake. Dreams of the floating sword in Tear. Decides he'd better go get it, runs away. Perrin, Moraine, Lan go in pursuit of him one village at a time. In every village weird stuff is happening.

[cont] hide in Cairnhein waiting for others, randomly find Thom in an inn w/new gf Dena. Trolloc attack. ///Meanwhile girls go to Tar Valon, make sickening childish vows of friendship to each other bff4ever (Egwene, Elayne, Min- randomly there.) Naenaeve takes Accepted test &passes but is sad (mentally abandons her people & a happy stable future)

Plot spoilers: Matt&Perrin are annoyed by Rand, Rand dressing like a noble bc Moraine packed his bag. They hunt Trollocs/Fain/Horn. Rand (Loial&Hurin) accidntaly teleport to alternate 'dead world,' make up some ground, pickup SKETCHest chick "Selene"/clearly evil, make it back to real world-ahead of others. Rand has to use Saidin & keeps getting 'oil taint on himself.' They steal horn from Fain, run away,

Lindon and Yerin are on the move through a forest full of hostiles, everyone is stronger magically than anyone Lindon has ever seen before. He finally advanced to Copper! His lifelong dream. The landscape seems corrupted.

Im12% in. Rand is getting moody AF. Amerlyn seat has come to town, Rands freaked out/thinks they'll hurt him (gentle him.) She is Siuan, Moraines good friend/in cohorts with Moraine. Rand hides while the Aes Sedai talk and meet- Suain reports the Aes Sedai are having power struggle issues.

Was surprised when it suddenly turned from Fantasy to Sci Fi. These remind me of avatar people somehow. Lindon just finished the competition and encounter with .. Suriel? The blue girl, forgot her name. I'm adequately entertained.

.. pursued by weirdos/darkfriends @ every turn, sleeping in bushes avoiding magic attacks. Sometimes they perform at inns to make money (flute &Juggling taught by Thom, lost after boat/Fade attack in a town) Nynaeve,Moraine,Lan are following looking for everyone. M&R make it to Camelyn and he meets an Ogier Loial. P&E get cught by whitecloaks, who kill a bunch of wolves, N&M&L will try to rescue them.Thats it so far

Progress slower than I like. Rand &Co leave 2Rivers after a Trolloc Attack. They run from Trollocs&fades in the woods. Go to a small town, chased by whitecloaks burning their inn. They hide in ruins of this city with evil spirit Shadar Logoth. Trollocs attack, Matt steals dagger, they're split up. Perrin&Egwene join a wolf speaking guy Elias. Perrin also speaks to wolves. Matt&Rand go alone to Camelyn...

Re reading this before the TV show. Why did my last update get deleted.

Here we go again, trying to re-read before the show. How far will I make it before giving up this time? So far "ok" but I remember the 1st book was a highlight before a looong slump. Last time I gave up after book 8. Wish me luck.

Elene driving me NUTS. So annoyed by her. I want them to break up. She's too naive and annoying.

This is very much a book exploring mental health issues and emotional distress. I am intrigued. Kaladin has depression and PTSD. Shallan has severe anxiety and split personality disorder. Navani was previously emotionally abused by her husband and struggles with self confidence after that. I haven't really seen this in an epic fantasy book before.

Love it so far. Super captivating, better than average.

I think I've read this before- or at least the beginning of it, but there's no record on Goodreads. Maybe I never finished it? It does make me uncomfortable. Idk. The 'wild west' cowboys vs. indians and general lawlessness is realistically very brutal to read about.

Uh oh- this book will be on my currently reading for a while. Book is due and on hold by someone else, will have to return and get back in line.

First few chapters very interesting re: sapiens vs other prehistoric human species, the agricultural revolution/the first "downfall," per se, of human species going against its true nature (as nomdic hunters.) After that it's slowed down but I want to push through!

I just finished this book this morning and now there is a gaping, empty hole in my life

Really liking this book so far! I like the story-telling and mystical feel of the place that is the Starless Sea.

For some reason I thought this book was about like 'scrap booking' or forms of preserving happy memories (photo books, journaling, etc.) but it's actually about doing current or future things that you will find pleasant and memorable hahaha (like for example trying new experiences with friends, new foods, seeing new places, etc.) I'm still in it for the visually pleasing pictures and type-face though

Started reading this because I read 'Children of Liberty,' was left confused, read reviews and it said it's a prequel to 'The Bronze Horseman' which is much much better. I'm about 1/3 through the book and starting to become annoyed. At first I was intrigued to get a glimpse of life in Russia and the impacts of World War 2, but now this dallying romance is starting to drag on and really annoy me.
