A.K. Frailey is on page 179 of 336 of Loneliness: Human Nature and the Need for Social Connection
A scientifically based look at what isolates human beings inside society and a single mind. I picked this up to better understand the dynamics of the family but now see how this reaches the whole world in cultural and societal aspects. A fascinating peek at the private world inside each of us.

I discovered this author in Scotland magazine and decided to take a chance on something new for the new year. Glad I did. It is a great story with fantastic writing. The cover does not do the book justice—needs something more up close and personal—as the story is a very up close and personal view of the lives of a family in the early 1900s on an island in Scotland. I feel like I've come home myself.

Like all of Sanderson's other work, this is a very imaginative story with lively characters. Personally, I prefer staying focused on fewer storylines in one book, but his ability to intertwine lives is quite amazing. He could have broken this one into two books and been just as powerful.

I am making slow progress, but that's mostly because I read late at night and I am having a hard time keeping the characters straight. I'll keep reading...

Just getting into this book. There are a lot of things happening and a lot of very different characters, so I've had to read parts over to make sure I am keeping things straight.

I really enjoy this world that Sanderson created. His imagination is boundless, but he manages to keep the rules he creates and make it feel very possible. I enjoy getting to know the many, varied characters too. Amazing that I can keep them straight. A tip of the hat to the author's wonderful ability to keep the character's voices unique and true to themselves.

I love this book! I read a poem each morning or a part of a long poem, and it really helps to start my day in a good frame of mind. I offer especially powerful poems to my kids who read them and talk about them together. A wonderful way to connect across the family tapestry. A poignant and thoughtful resource that brings the meaning of life into clearer focus.

Like her other books in the series, this one is well-written, vivid, and emotionally engaging. Quite a feat when one considers the fact that we are talking about a man's relationship with his dragon during the Napoleonic war. I look forward to getting back to the story each evening.

A.K. Frailey is on page 112 of 306 of The Next Wife
Someone sent me this book in the mail and I was hesitant to start it since it didn't look like my kind of book. But I took a chance, and I've found it interesting in many ways. The story is told from four different viewpoints: the first wife, the second wife, the husband, and the adult daughter from the first marriage. Insightfully honest about how humanity tends to think we know a whole lot more than we do...

I am impressed by George Cardinal Pell's humble response to being falsely accused and imprisoned for over a year. I plan to just read a couple of pages but then find myself drawn into his daily routine and prayerful attitude. I am especially impressed with the fact that he actually reads all the letters sent to him and happily values every bit of wisdom imparted through them. Definitely an inspirational journal.

My mind gets bogged down by the sheer weight of heady reasoning, but it's undoubtedly good exercise for the brain. Interesting to note the comparisons Thomas uses from his home environment. Makes me wonder what he'd make of our techno world today—how would apply this worldwide web reality to God's spiritual universe?

A.K. Frailey is on page 226 of 288 of Aquinas on the Four Last Things: Everything You Need To Know About Death, Judgment, Heaven, and Hell
Amazed as ever by the thought and logical reasoning that Thomas Aquinas applied to the whole concept of "getting to know" God. Reason leads toward certain ends, though God's thoughts are so above our own. Lots to consider in his reflections on the nature of God and our relationship with our Creator. Begs the question—Who are we really?
