This book is a real eye-opener. I never realized how influential the pharma industry has been in its own marketing and public education. Really makes me take the small print more seriously.

I am learning a lot from this book. However, I think the biggest lesson might be how much we don't know. There have been so many revisions of previous theories and new evidence coming through DNA research that it seems best to "learn" what we have discovered about human development without drawing hard and fast conclusions too quickly.

A.K. Frailey is on page 175 of 544 of Great Expectations
Despite the fact that this story was written about 163 years ago, there are so many relevant connections between how people interacted then and how we interact today that the insight it offers remains clear and powerful. If I use a character's name, a fellow reader will understand the human frailty or nobility I'm referring to. That's a powerful story!

I actually bought this book as a gift for someone else, but when I opened it and realized how valuable it might be, I decided to read it myself. It has been a wonderful experience, affirming much of what I have believed but rarely allowed myself to say out loud. Now I know it will be a great gift!

A.K. Frailey is on page 463 of 810 of Writers' & Artists' Yearbook 2025: The best advice on how to write and get published (Writers' and Artists')
This isn't a book I'll read cover to cover. It's A reference resource and has a lot of information tucked between the pages. Some resources don't apply to me or my life, but the stories by writers who struggled to make a living and eventually met with success were encouraging.

I really want this story to go a certain way! The captivating writing is beautiful and the insights are profound. But I'm worried that the story will reveal what is clearly true about humanity in a character I don't want to be so human. What makes a great story great can also be what makes it sad.

Hundreds of thousands of years of human history and development I knew nothing about! Well, until recently, no one did. This is an astounding and dense survey of our species' early days and developing theories as to who grew into what and where. Not an "easy read" but most definitely fascinating.

I am amazed at the humor threaded throughout this book. I read it so long ago, that I didn't remember it being so witty. Maybe, as a kid, I didn't understand the humor or appreciate the literary skill it took to craft a work so funny and yet so poignant.

I read many of Dickens' books when I was much younger, and they always struck me as depressing. Now, I am reading his books again, and I'm finding great humor and insight. The words are the same, but my understanding has grown.

I can see why Ernest Hemingway is considered a classic writer. He knows how to write emotionally evocative scenes and bring the reader into the environment. The story is centered on war and the individual lives altered by various factions. He dives deep into the psychological interplay of violence and love, how a human being stretches between the two and tries not to be destroyed in the process. Powerful and painful.

I loved reading the biographies from the point of view of a literary expert of 1918. It's interesting to see writers' ranking in that period, where authors like Darwin and Chesterton were listed in second place as if they were not as influential as many others. They were still living and writing at the time, so their impact had not been fully understood. It's fascinating to see how different periods view things.

My newest short story delves deep into the main characters' pasts from my newest novel Fly, Sparrow, Fly. The hardships of life teach us powerful lessons, if we let them.

Sisters’ Short Story reflects the close bond between siblings who have endured much together. In unspoken understanding, they build upon an imperfect past, hoping for a better future.

There is a great deal more to H. G. Well's stories than I had imagined. His character development is particularly interesting. So much character development through introspection, not always wise, that tethers actions to consequences really captures my attention.

I have a much deeper respect for H. G. Wells after reading a number of his most famous works. My impression had always been that he was a forefather of sci-fi and an early writer of "realistic" alien encounters, but now my view has shifted from how he viewed extra-terrestrial life to how he viewed humanity. His insight into the bubble of people's preconceptions of themselves and their roles in society is brilliant.

Great world-building and character development, but the plot seems to have stalled and nothing new is happening. Lots of recapping what we already know and little forward momentum.

I'm enjoying this series more than I imagined I would. I especially appreciate the character development that shows how people change with their experiences. Unfortunately, the constant repetition of previous events gives me an early dementia feeling - Haven't I already read this? Perhaps a prologue/summary at the beginning for readers who haven't read the previous books would work better?

Okay, I'll be honest. This month I am looking for nothing more than a pleasant escape, and that's exactly what I have found in The Dragon Reborn. I can read, and relax, the scary parts don't keep me up, and I enjoy the various characters. I'm not finding deep meaning, which is fine. For now, I'm not looking for it.

It's moving along! Of the three books I have read so far in this series, I think I like this one the best. Either Robert Jorden is becoming a better writer or I am becoming a better reader of his work. I am seriously enjoying the characters, especially Egwene and the different orders of the Aes Sedai. Reading twelve more books to complete the series doesn't seem as impossible as before.

A.K. Frailey is on page 400 of 592 of Dreamer of Dune: The Biography of Frank Herbert
Frank Herbert comes across as a very contrary person who didn't adjust to fame and fortune well. Fame seemed to make him arrogant and his fortune he spent faster than he made. The bio author, his son, Brian comes across as genuine and humble. Now I'd like to read his books.

A.K. Frailey is on page 281 of 592 of Dreamer of Dune: The Biography of Frank Herbert
Frank Herbert was undoubtedly a fascinating, larger-than-life human being but I'm not sure I would have liked to meet him. His son relates his life story with honesty and abundant factual information. He's a good writer in his own right. It's a pity that Frank was so out-sized that he shadowed his relationships with his sons for much of their lives. Still, it's an interesting read.
