I have a much deeper respect for H. G. Wells after reading a number of his most famous works. My impression had always been that he was a forefather of sci-fi and an early writer of "realistic" alien encounters, but now my view has shifted from how he viewed extra-terrestrial life to how he viewed humanity. His insight into the bubble of people's preconceptions of themselves and their roles in society is brilliant.

There is a great deal more to H. G. Well's stories than I had imagined. His character development is particularly interesting. So much character development through introspection, not always wise, that tethers actions to consequences really captures my attention.

H. G. Wells is a powerful writer with an incredible imagination. I found the biography at the front of the book to be especially interesting in light of the fact that he believed that scientists should rule the world, yet his early stories revolved around scientists who have gone rather mad. It makes me wonder if his writing revealed his real thinking to himself...
