When I saw this offered as an AMAZON FIRST selection for APRIL, I didn’t even NEED to read the other descriptions! I loved “Best Day Ever” (5 ⭐️) and also enjoyed “The Favorite Daughter” (4 ⭐️)

This one takes third place of the three, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t fun to read. It’s just a much more simplistic plot. The kind of story many of us give the popcorn 🍿 bucket to.

A light, entertaining book you can read in a sitting or two, but not one that will stand out from the crowd if you

OK - that cover! I mean ... LOVE
Rouda writes another captivating tale that takes us inside the heads of characters who surprise and delight with their mischief. Lots of twists and turns and, as always, an ending that you won't see coming, I found this the perfect escape!

Kaira Rouda has a gift for writing characters we love…to hate. Dark and devious, THE NEXT WIFE is a fast-paced, twisty thriller that will have you laughing, shaking your head, and gasping out loud right until the end. A perfect one-sitting read.

As always, no one does diabolical, dark humor, and narcissistic characters better than KAIRA ROUDA!!!!

I adored THE NEXT WIFE —a deliciously evil cat-and-mouse twisty game between the first wife (Kate), and the second wife (Tish), and the daughter (Ashlyn). John (husband) does not have a clue what he is in for!

Let the power play games begin! One wife is street smart, the other is business smart. Which one will win in the end?

Gosh, I would LOVE to see this play out on a TV series or movie. I c

Oooh, this was a great, twisted read! I thought I knew everything that would be coming but, my goodness, I was wrong. I could not put this page-turner down and I was intrigued by all the women’s actions.

Author Kaira Rouda nailed this ultimate psychological thriller with just enough ingredients of conflict, drama, mystery, betrayal, lies, scandals and a touch of essence of the perfect combination of protagonists and antagonists. The Next Wife blew me away from that very first page to the intense last. reading this book was like riding a roller coaster and clicking your way to the top before you slip over the edge and free fall, excited and scared all at the same time.

Was it perfect? No, but it was so darn good I did not care.

No one writes deliciously devious narcissists like Kaira Rouda. THE NEXT WIFE showcases her remarkable talent for making unlikeable characters alluring. With twisted egos, lavish wealth, and three women vying for power, this compelling, compulsive thriller is sharp, fun, and shocking. I was riveted by every word.

I’ve been preaching for a long time about how annoying it is that women are mostly portrayed as victims. So hallebloodylujah for this book coming along and showing how smart and dangerous women can be.

I started this book yesterday morning and the book rarely left my hand until it was finished, yes it’s that good!

Narrated by the four main characters Kate the first wife, Tish the new wife, John the husband and Ashlyn, Kate and John’s teenage daughter. I have called them characters but really they

No one writes diabolical characters better than Kaira Rouda. (I still think about Paul from BEST DAY EVER)

This book had me turning the pages and on the edge of my seat. I read it quicker than I thought I would but also wanted to savor it so didn’t read in one sitting (it is THAT good!!!)

This is a story about John who is basically a walking cliche. Successful businessman, family guy, married his college sweetheart. But he leaves that all behind when his head is turned to a younger version of his

I had an amazing time reading this Novel! A thriller as it should be.

BEST DAY EVER is one of my favorite books of all time, and I was so excited to hear that Kaira had a new book, and it was everything I had hoped it would be. It had a sense of tawdriness and salaciousness not often found in thrillers.

Tish is the woman you love to hate. She has no qualms about breaking up John and Kate's marriage and is quite open about what she's entitled to and what she deserves, and the whole time you're reading, you're thinking, 𝘿𝙞𝙙 𝙨𝙝𝙚 𝙍𝙀𝘼𝙇𝙇𝙔 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙨𝙖𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩? and ye

As always 5 stars for Kiara Rouda! Her domestic thrillers are always spot on and fast paced! They hook you from page one, keeping you on the edge of your seat the entire time.
I love how real and Rouda messes with the readers minds. Making the characters people you love to hate.

Kate and John Nelson have built their company from the ground up. John’s midlife crisis finds him in the arms of Tish.
After celebrating a milestone with the company, Tish decides her and John need a special vacation rek

What a juicy, fun thriller from one of my go-to thriller authors. The Next Wife tells the story of John (a successful businessman), Kate (his co-partner and first wife), Ashlyn (their daughter), and Tish (John’s second wife). The twisted game between them all explodes. Especially when Tish realizes she may have underestimated a few of her opponents.

First things first—this cover is GORGEOUS! I will admit that I was drawn to this book because of the cover and this was my first read from Kaira Rouda.

The Next Wife started off strong for me and I was fully in it, committed and ready to buckle up for the ride. But, after part 1 things went a little down hill and I found myself disengaging. I’m not sure if it was due to the lack of heroine in the story or that it started to feel repetitive at times, but I stuck with it and just had to know who t

What an absolute thrill ride! Tish had me screaming outloud.

The devious characters, and the well executed plot twists left me devouring and turning pages late into the night. Kaira's ability to string along the reader and leave them trusting the wrong ones is unmatched. The Next Wife moves at a super fast pace which is perfect in the moment, but leaves me ready and wanting the next!

If you're looking for characters that you love to hate as much as you hate to love them... Kate, Tish and Ashlyn

1.5 This was an Amazon Prime First Read and it was simply awful! Bad pick on my part. I kept reading, waiting for the promised devious events, twists, turns, anything, but no......just predictable ridiculousness! I couldn’t decide which character was the most despicable. Gullible John, cheating on first wife Kate, marrying Tish, then going behind her back. First wife Kate, smart and unforgiving. Gold digger Tish, plotting and hating. Or could it have been daughter Ashlyn? Spoiled and willful. Si ...more

The perfect escape! This book is mad fun, like a hot fudge sundae of revenge. Rouda has a way of getting inside of women's heads - the kind we love and the kind we love to hate - so we know what they are thinking. Even if we aren't sure what they are doing. And no, I didn't guess the ending. ...more

To say The Next Wife is an exciting read is a vast understatement. It’s non-stop thrills, guesses and surprises. The description alone hooked me, and once I read the first chapter I knew I was destined for an all-night read. I could not stop.

Tish. At the start, Tish just seems like the typical younger woman at the office who hooks the older boss who’s having a midlife crisis. Not too likeable but not too surprising. Yes, she’s young, maybe just a bit too young emotionally. She’s won the husband,

This book has it all - lies, secrets, betrayals, deception, and lots of revenge. The seemingly perfect Mr. and Mrs. Nelson seem to have it all. Lots of prestige, lots of wealth, lots of respect. But even the most seemingly perfect couple has their downfalls. Tish is the new and improved Mrs. Nels

This was my April Amazon Prime free book and it was a pretty good choice. I've had a couple of stinkers already this month, but this was a good page-turner. I sat down and read it straight through.

There's been a fashion for about a decade now for books without heroes or heroines. It's not a new thing - Thakeray subtitled Vanity Fair as 'A novel without a hero' way back in the mid 19th century. That said, readers do still tend to expect to have a goodie to root for and a baddie to hiss at, almost

One word: Diabolical

I always struggle to sometimes find one word to describe a book, but this one was easy to identify right from the beginning. Having read Rouda's previous novels, this is my favourite one yet.

Kate Nelson is married to John Nelson and they have a wonderful daughter, Ashlyn. Her life is perfect, until it isn't. Enter Tish, only a few years older than Ashlyn. She is the next wife, and it's hard being the next wife, isn't it? So she plans a romantic getawa

After Reading The Favorite Daughter, I put this author on my radar and have been waiting patiently, well maybe not so patiently, for this book!!

It's a big day at EventCo when the company that John and Kate, his first wife, started many years ago goes public on the Stock Market. But Kate, and their only child Ashlyn, are seething because Tish, his 2nd and much younger wife, is trying to move into the spotlight.

John has been under a lot of stress with the company going public so Tish plans what wa

Oh what a twisted web we weave! This book is a twisted cat and mouse game and I was here for it!
Kate and her husband John started their business EventCo fifteen years ago, Kate was the brains behind it and it’s now it’s one of Ohio’s most respected businesses and their going public.
Three years ago John was going through a midlife crisis and was feeling like Kate was ignoring him and focusing more on the business, so he decided to sleep with his administrative assistant Tish who happens to be

I didn't forget to rate this book. It's so bad that I'm giving it ZERO stars. It may very well have been one of the worst books I have ever read, and that says A LOT because not only do I read an insane amount of books, I also always take a free selection from the Amazon First Reads monthly promotion.
And most of those books are worth exactly what I paid - nothing. (Although occasionally I find a good one which keeps me going back each month, despite all the losers that most of them turn out to
This is one of those thrillers that made me think of an intricate game of cat and mouse but in this case, it’s never quite clear who’s the cat and who’s the mouse until the very end.

The Next Wife is well-plotted and as twisty as they come. Kate and John have built a hugely successful company and have a seemingly perfect marriage but it’s only when Tish enters the picture that the fine cracks in their stressed relationship begin to show. John has no problem dumping Kate for Tish, who refers to h

There's nothing more disappointing than a book which has a promising plot set up which fails to deliver because the characters don't quite live up to their promise. The main players here are all hollow and unpleasant. The types you come across in some of the worst soaps. Kaira Rouda needs to watch or read Blithe Spirit by Noel Coward and David Lean to see what I'm getting at. There you see a battle between first and second wives which crackles with electricity and wit. They cause sparks and fire ...more
