the intrigue and buildup in this story is fucking MASTERFUL, i am so interested in akito and hanging onto every detail we get to try to piece together a picture of who he is. and the curse too!!! there’s so many balls in the air right now but it’s all so character focused that the mysteries don’t feel overwhelming or frustrating at all, i’m simply thrilled to keep reading and keep learning about the family

i am equal parts terrified and excited to see more of yuki and akito’s dynamic bc hearing yuki say that akito will tease him for dressing up in drag paired with that previous comment about how he shouldn’t tell sob stories bc he’s a man really makes me think there’s a lot of toxic masculinity going on in the soma household, bred specifically by akito and focused mostly on yuki

what is it with japanese high schools and putting boys in drag for events?? is it just a shojo thing or is it actually a common thing that popular boys do during festivals and stuff?? i am so intrigued i’ve gotta do some research about this

i’m pretty sure the anime put this pickled plum scene earlier on in the story and i wonder why they decided to switch that cause it fits so much better here!!!! it feels like such a natural progression after hearing both kyo and yuki tell tohru about how they secretly envy each other. and you best believe i’m giggling and kicking my feet at kyo showing his softie side and telling tohru that she’s wonderful too

at EVERY TURN this manga punches me in a new and exciting weak point i swear to god. arisa and saki are so fucking lovely what a beautiful depiction of female friendship

i sobbed at it in the anime and here i am sobbing again at little tohru waiting for the onigiri to be called. her smile as she sits and waits makes me indescribably sad, she is the sweetest girl in the world and SHE WAS JUST PATIENTLY WAITING FOR HER TURN TO PLAY THAT WOULD NEVER COME

i’ve heard people say that this manga has stuck with them for years and years because of its character writing and i’m definitely seeing why. that speech about kindness was BEAUTIFUL without being overdramatic or way too wise for a teenager to say. i am loving watching tohru try her best to understand kyo and yuki!!!! i would die for all three of them

ending the "if you ever fall for someone, let me know" convo with "i can never say anything" is the most unsubtle shit i've ever seen and i am eating it up. the layers????? from sho's pov, he's saying that he can't tell akira what he knows about his future but ALSO that he's fallen for him. and from akira's pov, he's saying that he can't ask sho about how sad he looks sometimes AND that he's fallen for him too

akira saying that anyone would fall for sho if they could see how cool he is and then sho IMMEDIATELY acknowledging that AKIRA ALWAYS SEES IT AND THAT IT'S THEIR SECRET????? this really never gets any less gay

i get that natsuki wouldn't hate reiji for killing his mother anymore now that he's jaded and understands more about aliens but i still think he should be angrier about the whole grooming kids to be weapons thing!!!! especially since we now know that he was ALSO recruited by amamiya as a CHILD. i think after natsuki uses him for his revenge quest he should kill him (and probably die trying cause amamiya is a snake)

oh. my fucking god. i did not think i was gonna feel so much for natsuki but HERE WE ARE. also is he really only 21 in present day???? he looks and acts so much older, so i assumed he and amamiya were at least the same age but i guess amamiya is a few years older

this has been on my list for a while now cause it's apparently one of The Greats. it's definitely the oldest manga i've read so far so i'm interested to see how the art style differs from more modern stuff. gonna try my best to read along as i'm watching the anime, and from the 3 episodes i've watched so far, i am STOKED
