OH this mention of the girl only being 14 reminds me of one of my prevailing questions about the vampirism in this story: when do they stop aging? is it totally random? or is there a general range for most vampires? chloé's aging stopping at 11 seems like an anomaly but we really don't have much info about it. domi, noé, jeanne, and ruthven have all definitely aged past that

wow i am LOVING getting to see the drawn out corruption tactics of naenia when she can't just take someone's true name by force. it's genuinely so horrifying and makes me wonder if louis went through something similar like noé implied before. idk how powerful he was but he was just a kid?? although his family is super powerful in general so maybe he inherited enough to be a challenge for naenia even as a kid

oh thank GOD we have at least one solid year for the timeline now. so 1702 is when the war ended, and it had lasted for more than 30 years. and chloé was born in the late 1500s. not super positive when the present day story is taking place (my guess is mid-1800s???) but it's probably easy to infer for people who know anything about french history. god i hope the wiki has a timeline

naenia preying on loneliness is so tragic but makes so much sense. but chloé being visited by her hundreds of years prior to the current story makes me wonder about the timeline cause i thought curse-bearers only just started becoming more prevalent again. so naenia has been around for a LONG time corrupting people here and there, but she's only recently started moving towards some new goal? with ruthven's help?

i UNDERSTAND that the betrayal hit him hard and completely twisted his entire world view, of COURSE it did. but to try to force his will of revenge onto chloé through his blood drinking power??? to keep and cultivate jeanne as a weapon to be controlled by him alone???? this story is all about control, so of course one of the main villains is obsessed with gaining it at any cost

i am SO curious about marquis machina and what their deal is!!! they're clearly another very powerful vampire if they're around the same age as chloé and ruthven, and they have influence over dhams which is interesting. and they always wear some kind of disguise??? for some reason??? kind of hilarious that they wore a bear costume in the olden days and in the present day we've seen them piloting an automaton instead

OUCH?????? i can already tell that this arc is gonna hit way harder the second time around and i'm so emotionally unprepared for it. if i'm remembering correctly, jeanne lost her parents, was groomed to be a weapon, and then got frozen in time by ruthven shortly after this, so this was her last chance to be a kid, while it's chloé's first (and also probably last)

"i lived alongside the d'apchiers" really puts the tragedy of chloé's existence into perspective so succinctly. she was always on the outside, always watching, never part of the family. and of course that meant she just had to watch as her father's wish (which was already questionable but well-intentioned enough) got twisted up by greed and humanity's need for control over the very fabric of the world itself

okay YES i was wondering how chloé came to be a vampire when her entire family is human!! i wonder if these glitches of the formula still happen or if they naturally phased out as centuries passed since the babel incident. god how AWFUL to just wake up as a different being (when you're a CHILD) and then immediately be shunned and hidden away from the world as some kind of problem to be fixed

.......i have several fears about this seed being planted here. although how fucking incredible would it be if vanitas died (maybe because of something ruthven asked of noé), and then noé gave his true name to naenia in exchange for bringing vanitas back (if she can even do that idk), and THEN vanitas has to cure noé?????? juicy as fuck, i don't think it'll happen but someone write the fic

okay i need to point out vanitas taking out his luna earring between chapters 27 and 28 cause it could mean nothing but that's just no fun. why point it out in this little extra here? is it really that much of a hassle to draw? the excuse of it being cold seems flimsy too. i really think he might've gotten freaked out by the reminder of luna when he was poisoned and needed to distance himself from that vulnerability

wow i missed this manga so much and didn't even realize it!! this moment of chloé and jean-jacques having a freaky lover's spat while noé is just on the bed below them slightly offended even through his brain fog is so fucking funny

i've mentioned this before i think but this encounter with chloé and noé furthers the allegory of blood drinking as a sexual act perfectly. when it's consensual, blood drinking is incredibly vulnerable bc the one being drunk from is willingly allowing themself to be weakened for pleasure. so then when it's non-consensual, it's IMMEDIATELY predatory bc of that precedent. it's so viscerally violating

restarting this volume cause it's been way too long!!! and as i'm rereading this part it's becoming clearer to me that vanijeanne is truly essential to both vanitas' and jeanne's growth. for vanitas, it's a chance to open himself up to physical intimacy and vulnerability after being abused for so long. and for jeanne, it's a chance to assert individual desire and autonomy after being a tool her entire life

nah yoi i'm sorry but this is bullshit. the way she's been acting this volume has made it seem like she doesn't value her relationship with ichimura at all, so she really has no right to act so offended when ichimura gets insecure (like she has been this entire story btw) about if she even really likes him. it wasn't the BEST thing to say, but come on. she's acting completely ridiculous and immature rn

this has just become an ichimura stan account cause now even yoi is pissing me off. what do you mean even SHE is assuming the worst of ichimura????? it at least makes sense for jealous creep ohji to do it, but yoi?????? she's the only person who actually knows him!!! and he's told her time and time again that what he feels for her is way deeper and more important to him than any of the mindless flings he's had before

i can't even enjoy this cause i'm just waiting for the miscommunication shoe to drop which SUCKS. but also i really feel like i need yoi to be the one to initiate things moving forward cause she needs to not look so fucking scared whenever he touches her. she's admitted before that she DOES want him but she's just inexperienced, so i think her taking the reins is the way to go to gain some confidence about it

yoshiko having a crush on yoi's dad is the comedy i needed to pick this volume up from the depths of hell. i wanna know more about yoshiko and ichimura's friendship too cause they really are SO platonic and it's refreshing to see from a character like him who is assumed to be such a player

okay we didn't get exactly what i wanted BUT i do think it's telling that ichimura's biggest reaction came from the earrings, not the makeup or dress. he's WAY more affected by yoi's desire to match with him than he is at her attempt to look more feminine

oh my god okay double tragic backstory!!! the thing with yoi being insecure about her sister looking more feminine and therefore more attractive to guys gives me a ton of hope for ichimura assuring her that her masculine side is incredibly attractive to him. and ichimura's family just gets even more fractured the more we learn about it wow. no wonder he's touch starved
