LOVE seeing more of noé challenging vanitas and his viewpoints. this entire aspect of their relationship is really where vanoé seems like the obvious choice over vanijeanne to me. noé questions how vanitas operates, how he’s closed himself off, how he lies and grandstands whenever things get too personal. but he doesn’t know what love is!!! he knows what fear is!!! a cheap thrill to overwrite his past trauma!!

domi pouncing on noé after he talks about his jealousy right in front of her face really feels like a desperate attempt on her part to make him LOOK AT HER. and he does, kind of, when he drinks from her in return. but he’s looking at the blood when he calls it delicious. and you can see that she KNOWS that for him, their blood drinking pact is a means to an end and nothing more

we literally see noé ON THE PAGE attribute the “stirring in his heart” over jeanne and vanitas’ relationship to jealousy but then refuse to take even one step further down that line of thought. AND DOMI’S REACTION????? she of all people knows how dense noé is about his romance, so she does what she’s trained herself to do best and offers her blood as consolation. cause she’s once again not his choice

oh my GOD and vanitas’ second condition being that jeanne has to call him by his name instead of “human”??????? if that doesn’t connect the dots right back to his trauma then idk what does. he’s trying to recreate the scenario from his past when he was powerless and dehumanized and used for his body, but this time, he makes the rules. it’s still dangerous, which is the thrill of it, but he’s safe enough

jeanne and vanitas’ relationship is SO interesting. it’s very clearly more about possession and control for vanitas, and he says himself that he feels “thrilled” when he’s with her. it’s a way for him to be in a dangerous situation and feel alive in that way while having more power than he ever had when he was in submissive positions in his past. he has the upper hand even if he’s the one being fed from

the sequence of events that leads to noé asking vanitas “what on earth is love?”: noé hearing vanitas say that he and jeanne are in love, seeing the mark of possession that “proves” it, getting jealous of jeanne for tasting vanitas’ blood before he could, and domi clearly having unrequited feelings for noé when he drinks from her as a consolation prize. there is no straight explanation for this

the bell tower scene is a PERFECT scene and i will die on that hill. noé admitting to himself that vanitas is a real and complex person, not just this vehicle for noé’s own redemption, AND admitting to both himself and vanitas that he wants to UNDERSTAND HIM??? he doesn’t like him (so he says) but he’s intrigued, just like vanitas was at the beginning towards noé. vanitas letting it happen?? the SUNRISE?????

vanitas is so clearly suicidal in this portion of the story, from letting jeanne drink from him right after revealing his true motives to eagerly and sadistically admitting that he killed the curse-bearer in front of ruthven. and his FACE when noé successfully convinces ruthven not to hurt vanitas???? he’s so ANGRY, it’s like a betrayal. salvation for vanitas really is being unknowable and then dying alone huh

oh my god nope i do still really like futagami but ikkoku is so endgame holy shit the butterflies came back IMMEDIATELY for both me AND katsura

and if i said futugami was a fantastic rival love interest what then?????? he’s super hot, very direct with his feelings, and unafraid to show his more alternative style and interests, so he really is the anti-ikkoku in a lot of ways and thus poses a clear choice for katsura. very interested to see how this plays out going forward….

oh WOW i loved that moment in the rain so much!!!! when i first picked this up, i thought their bond was gonna be more about the freedom to show their more delinquent sides to each other, but it’s not exactly that. it’s more about showing their FALLIBLE sides. they both slip and fall in the rain and look like idiots but they can both laugh it off TOGETHER. i love a balanced ship and they are IT
