King Crusoe > Recent Status Updates

Part Seven was super solid. Climax was great, and the main story resolution was satisfying and deserved.
The sort of "Epilogue" like thing at the end, the last 10 pages was also very good. Resolves the arcs for...basically every character in the story that didn't have some manner of resolution or comeuppance already. I was really happy to see that.

This book is just great. It’s such a vibe, and always does something a little bit different than what I foolishly predict.

Last couple chapters have been PACKED, following some relatively empty ones. Only 5 chapters left. Will find out how that goes this weekend.

Part Five done. Just some setup for these last couple parts 👀

Part 4 was really really great. Such a great slow burn of unsettling mystery and the like. Seeing some shifts and changes that have me interested for how the book goes from here.

So many little unsettling pieces coming together to build a very compelling world. Enjoying this a hell of a lot

Completed my reading through the week. A couple hiccups here, and middle-of-book waiting on things to *progress*, but it's still good. We'll see what these last 210-ish pages have in store for me.

Okay so I was too tired to finish Part 3 yesterday lol

Part 4 absolute gonna be done week, likely alongside Part 5. The book is pretty great so far. Looking forward to more for sure.

Part 2 started strong. Interesting new perspectives and ways to tie them together with the “main” narrative thus far 🔥

Honestly, this book is just as good or better than literally any other book in the series so far.

Forgot to update yesterday. I’ve read through Ch. 11, one chapter left in this first Egwene portion of the book (woulda read 12 today too but it’s heckin 30 pages in hardcover and I ain’t got time for that lmao). Been great stuff. Genuinely really enjoy this POV a lot.

Part One done. A lot of the implicit tone and mystery of the story so far is splendidly well done.

Prologue is a fantastic tone setter. First half of Part One is also very good. Distinct characters, interesting interactions between them, and effective introductions to some of the other systems of the story. Excited to continue.

Man. Something about the way this volume is shaping up - the culmination of everything, especially after Volume 8 and even the end of Volume 7…it’s grody.

That’s not an insult, mind you. Something about this final volume is just so much heavier and hitting so much harder than the series already was doing. It’s…almost unsettling.

How the fuck you boutta leave Volume 8 on the biggest cliffhanger of the manga thus far, then open up Volume 9 with THE CRAZIEST TWIST possible for this story. (Forget the fact the twist actually makes great sense, but I wasn't ready for this shit man lmao)

Chapter 7 was pretty okay. The first half was just more of the Rand v. Lews Therin stuff that LoC already did well, and which I'm starting to get a little exhausted by. The back half was just Rand doing his political thing in his mind as per usual, traveling and trying to make contact with people.

Chapter 4 was okay, too much focus on Zarine.
Chapter 5 was GREAT. Tension and execution of the political aspects were incredible.
Chapter 6 was mediocre. Interested to find out what Rand has planned for Perrin, but the toxic relationship between Zarine and Perrin is SO. AGGRAVATING."

Read Chapters 1-3 today. Loving the start with Perrin's POV. Without Zarine around, he remains a blast. I especially like the way this start is reflective of the start of TDR, because of using Perrin's unique sense of the world and interactions therein to study Rand and the politics about him from a different perspective.

I honestly find that style more interesting than just following Rand himself lmao

Read the Prologue. Solid. A couple parts of it felt more like Epilogue to Lord of Chaos, but even that was cool in it's own way. Particularly enjoyed the Elaida and Alviarin POV here.

Another leg of the WoT trek has officially begun.

Read all of Part 4 yesterday. It covered some slightly different things than I would have anticipated, but it was good.

Leo Valdez and the Quest for Buford: fun story; I like these character from HoO tho that seems a mildly unpopular opinion in the fanbase; even so, the story’s good…though it does feature some continuity glitches with HoO. Nothing egregious, but noticeable nonetheless.

Percy Jackson and the Staff of Hermes. Great balance of stakes. Maybe better than any of the 3 PJ stories in Demigod Files? Maybe? Not sure. But solid.

Diary of Luke Castellan, unfortunately Luke’s voice is not very distinct among Rick’s narrators, but the story is solid still.

Not as much progress today, but still a decent amount. A couple of Crichton’s weaker habits in the middle of books starting to emerge slightly, but I’m still very engaged.

What a splendid book so far. The strongest start of the Crichton I've read thus far for sure, and following through on the formula that The Andromeda Strain and The Terminal Man started to establish even better.

Part 3.7 was again fantastic. Relating and opposing Cain’s reaction to his own inadequacy and Job’s humility in the face of suffering was quite effective.

Now finally done with Part 3.

Book 12 was alright I guess. Momentous conclusion, but it felt really drawn out to me.
