The (french) translation seems really well-done, but it's actually weird, it makes the writing seem so natural in french, and I can't fully picture the original version. It's a bit frustrating, I'm torn between how flowing this version is, and the fact that I don't know Natasha Brown's actual writing, despite feeling it must be quite something. I'll probably re-read it in english at some point

I think I'm really enjoying this ? The atmosphere is so uncomfortable yet peaceful and melancholic ? It's really weird, but mesmerising. I also love how terribly slow it is, which clashes with the mystery/thriller aspects

Off to such a fantastic start ! I love the writing, it's simple, balanced, with some beautiful figures of speech, it reminds me of a tale. The tone also has a tale-like quality to it, which makes the atmosphere calm and quiet, it's mesmerising. There are so many fantastic details on which the narration slows down, so well-thought

This chapter was surreal, I loved it, the whole Napoleon stuff was insane and so funny. Katsuko is a fantastic character, 17 yo obsessing over Napoléon and singing la Marseillaise while also hoping to get in the jump olympic team ? Slay girlie

Cute, often relatable , but I'm not the biggest fan of the pace so far !

It's so wholesome, pure vibes, I love it.

Great so far, I really love the way it's told, there's something cheeky and sweet about the narration and the characters, but it's also slightly melancholic.

I don't dislike January as much, but still not into anything happening here :(
