Half boring af and old-fashioned, half unexpectedly modern and funny???

Really enjoying this so far, the atmosphere is so fun : a little creepy but mostly just uncomfortable and unwelcoming

1) Tuki is my favourite character, I miss him, he deserves better
2) The troll queen has so much potential as a character, her pov were the best
3) The romance of the book is so boring and underdeveloped, and it’s even more painful when reading such a slow story
4) Rose is such an uncreative mc, my god

Why are white people obsessed with saying how disgusting blood based recipes are when they’re from other traditions as if blood sausage wasn’t a thing ???

God, is this boring ! It's not because it is slow, but because everything is so flat : there are no danger or true perils, everything runs very smoothly for the main characters and we never fear for them. Rose keeps being so talented ar everything, she actually never faces any obstacle, and everyone she meets is so eager to help her and praise whatever she does... Even for ya it's boring

This book feels like it truly doesn’t know what it wants to be, but it very much feels written by a white man

I'm still intrigued by the story, and I really like the Troll Queen and White Bear povs, but Rose's is exactly the type of first person narration I dislike. I can't fully explain it, but for example the way food is described bores me, it's really giving bad historical fiction for kids where author feel the need to exoticise the past through "omg breaaaddd, omg buttteeeer and soooup" and I hate it

So far I enjoy the characters and the lore of this world, but I'm having a hard time getting used to the multiple povs, they switch too quickly for my liking

Ok, I hated the first chapter : the translation gets rid of they and uses "he" and "she" instead, I don't realy enjoy the tone mostly used for tales, and I was just really confused by everything. But after that, I LOVED the following chapters and how slow and soft they are

I think one of my biggest problems with this trilogy are the faes. They’re literally fancy, mean, medieval humans. That’s it. Sometimes they’ll have a tail, or especially sharp teeth, or fox eyes ; but nothing that fundamentally divides us from them ? Gender roles, mariage, politics are the same and nothing inexorably estranges them. All the differences seem here only to serve the plot
