I have tried, on numerous occasions, to read this book, but this phrase makes my eyes bleed. Each time I see it, I think, "When the fuck did light become water?" It's trivial, I know, but it is oh so grating to me, to the point I stop reading the story. At 1%. That's bad. With that being said, this book is getting one last shot before we're done.

Well that's a little unnerving. An amputated arm, floating in space, alongside you...

Well, I'm not sure how I feel about all of this...

There's a lot of twisted machinations going on here. I'm not sure what to make of it....

Fortunately there's been no more brotherly love weirdness. Yay!

I'm actually really enjoying this, though I'm still trying to wrap my head around like actual ship ships, in space, with breatheable air. Like, the space vacuum doesn't exist and you can survive exposure, no problem.

Arabella is a bit of a snob :/ I also think it's a little weird she and her brother wear lockets containing each other's picture.

I read the first trilogy and enjoyed it for the most part. Thought I'd give this one a shot as my current KU narrated book choice.

How am I supposed to feel about this?

I've had to listen to this middle section a few times to fully follow the action sequences. I think I've got the gist of it now though. Sometimes work is just too distracting ;)

Man, I'm still really pleasantly surprised by this one. I didn't want to stop listening once I made it home. But...home is for reading, work/commute is for listening.

Another KU narrated special :) While it seems like pretty typical sci-fi/military boot camp fare so far it's still been pretty fun to listen to. It reminds me a little bit of Starship Troopers...

She says she will allow no one in her group to be raped. In fact she nearly killed a few guys to get her point across. They need to remember they are human, to act like they are all people. So how is drugging someone into compliance any better? How does that not constitute rape? Because it's for their own good? I just don't know that I can see the difference here.

I find it strange that immediately after being brought out of this deep sleep these women are asking about men. Seriously? You wake up coming out of this plant pod on an alien ship in a space where the rooms are literally grown, told that you've basically been a victim of alien abduction, and you ask about the men? Hmmm....

The Oankali have such a strange family structure. I'm still puzzling through it. That and their physiology. Plus, I'm still not sure how I feel about their motives and reasoning.

I was excited to see this available on KU with narration ;) I think the organic planet/ship is really neat (and a little unnerving), though I've yet to decide where I stand with these alien "rescuers".

My son was given this as a gift so we're giving it a go. We've already had to look up a few aussie terms, such as whingeing lol. And I had to read aloud about the echidna with two penis heads. A little awkward :/

I hate these parents.

So, I've basically reached the conclusion that, aside from the boy and the baby, they are all kind of horrible.

I have no idea what to make of these guys...
