Also: I don’t understand why these three guys, born with insane levels of wealth to their name, care about the state of the country. I need to know the why otherwise it’s discordant

I get that the author is using this story (in part) to write a commentary on major conglomerates like Amazon (= The Nile in the book) and American politics, but those moments are 1) repetitive 2) info dumped and don’t actually have much to do with the immediate narrative. It’s clumsy. It would have made so much more sense if one of the characters came from these “poor houses” instead of irrelevant exposition

New audiobook alert 🚨

The banter is exceptional

The narrator has done a great job with all the voices and accents, the banter is hysterical, and cuuuuute a bisexual awakening

That’s right, folks. I’ve never read this.

I dug my heels in (honestly, I can’t tell you why other than general obstinance) forever.

Then, I had a great convo with Hannah & Kierstan (which maybe I’ll explain in a TikTok) and thought: fuck it. I’ll put in a request on Libby.

And here it is, *like special* ready for my queer ass during pride month.

The fates have spoken. I am listening.

Hmmm sad to report the quality of the craft within this dark romance just isn’t there. Quite a bit of telling instead of showing. Time jumps that could have instead been used to develop the relationship in an organic way.

I haven’t read that many dark romances. Even still, I realized I’ve never read a sapphic dark romance and thus as it is pride month, ‘twas time to change that.

First thoughts: this has been interesting, mainly good interesting. But good god am I sick of them talking about each other’s “vibe” and “energy”. Overuse is making it less effective, not more

Even though this has been predictable, I will say it’s come together quite nicely. Fluffy and sweet but with pretty legit character growth. A cosy palate cleanser

Her mom might be pretty terrible but there are few mom tropes I like better than a mom who overshares and openly talks about sex 🤣

I’ve laughed out loud a few times, it’s ridiculous and cosy, and I have faith that when things get steamy, they’ll be cute and spicy

Fluffy and quirky — so far so good!

Picked this up because it’s supposed to be another Jason Clarke audiobook. The problem is, the story is the equivalent of unbuttered toast 🥴

Also, it seems like it *isn’t* dual POV… my guess is that it’s single POV until the epilogue

It’s so romantic!

I’ll be dead honest with all of you.

Yesterday I started & finished book four in the Vicious Lost Boys series. Even though all the narrators are 🧑‍🍳💋 each time we got one of Roc’s chapters, I could literally feel my brain waves slowing down from frenetic to steady. There’s just something about the way Jason Clarke reads that character.

So I needed more lol. No clue what this is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The narrator is perfect 🫶

Enjoying this a lot more now but gaaahhh the slow burn is killing me. It feels like they’ll NEVER get together at this rate

A personal pet peeve when it comes to book characters: When they’re highly emotionally closed-off and it’s hinted that ~something happened~ but we aren’t told what happened. For me, this results in me wanting to empathize and failing miserably because I’m not given the chance to understand why they behave the way they do

I probably should have done a reread 😂

Nevertheless, just like the previous books, I’m gloriously entertained

I’ve been reasonably entertained, especially when considering I said I was sick of reading fake dating trope.

(It’s actually more of marriage of convenience but hey-ho)

Other notes: The characters are likeable enough. The ridiculous situation that sets this whole thing off? Not exactly believable lol.

If you didn’t know, the bulk of my decision to read certain books when is based on what comes through on my library holds. And when this little ditty popped up during Pride Month: huzzah!

Hoping this is a) a great little palate cleanser and b) a lot better than my last monster romance audiobook

Lazy, repetitive writing chalk-full of telling instead of showing. “He’s grown so much over the last three months” chriiiiiist we get it.

It’s the newbie writing I can’t get behind 🥴

One of the narrators is a painful over-actor, the other can’t do accents if his life depended on it 🥴

Will I continue? Yes, because I want queer and cosy
