I should have known this would be mediocre. There’s no way to replicate the hilarity and pacing of the first book without literally writing the same thing.

I like these characters well enough; they’re just not that special

Disappointed this isn’t working for me. It’s Naomi’s most popular novel, and while I love the restaurant setting and the characters’ backstory, it feels a bit hollow

Sometimes it feels like I’ve heard it all before. Then along comes Tarah with:

“Take it out, baby. See what you did to me.”

How on earth am I already enthralled? I’ve laughed out loud, felt every angsty pang of longing, and had certain sentences stop me in my tracks.

I’ve always loved Tarah’s writing. This is her fourth book, and it’s evidence of a step change in her craft.

Okay so she just killed someone by accident. And Cross’s solution to barge into her room, oggle her “brawless breasts” (dafuq? Was this written by a man?) then proceed to strip her and initiate shmex because he can “make (her) forget” ????🤮🤮🤮

I’ve concluded that SILVER ELITE is deeply unserious—plain and simple.

Why is this book so bloody cringe?

The incessant, highly repetitive internal dialogue exhausts me.

Despite telling the reader 6x per chapter how hot and sexy and perfect Cross is, why is there zero chemistry? This would be much more interesting if she actually hated him. The marketing of enemies to lovers is a lie.

I just want to DNF 😩

Lots of chatter in bookish circles about this book. I don’t really care who wrote this (its a pen name, all we know is they’re Canadian and a NYT bestseller)

I do care to see for myself if this story leans into right wing propaganda. I’m also just looking to review it.

I have a huge amount of respect for the author who, like healing happens in real life, stuck to her guns and not once has rushed the process

Here's what you need to know about me: I'm a mood reader. But sometimes all it takes to get me *in the mood* for a book is to pitch it with why you loved it.

Emily Henry, you’re better than this

Something about this book feels tired. It’s too similar to The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo*, and the character work is lacklustre. I don’t understand why these two are drawn to one another. All I can think of is the fact that they’re stuck on an island populated by retirees. There’s nothing else to do and no one else to see.

Not that 7H is the only narrative like this, just that it was EVERYWHERE

I guess it’s on me for assuming this would be a dark romance. Most mafia romances are, and most have at least a tinge of the unhinged.

This is the result of mafia romance meets fluff meets disability rep. The latter of which is done well!

I’m going to try to wrestle my preconceived notions into submission. That might mean starting a different audiobook and coming back to this

Despite being character driven, YOU BETWEEN THE LINES is propulsive. Naymon makes excellent use of the countdown toward finding out which poet will be awarded 1:1 time for their entire second year. She also shows us the FMC’s hang up’s over time, not all at once at the beginning.

This is ridiculous. I am very entertained 😂

This is a great palate cleanser. It’s quirky, silly, funny, hot, and the two characters come with reasonably emotional backstories

That thing that happens at this point? I actually felt my heart rip in two and my stomach drop.

Christine Lakin, most recently listened to in The Favourites, delivers every line perfectly. Her performance is heartfelt and deep enough to convey the grief explored in caring for her mother, a 50-something with dementia

Is anyone else surprised at how not spicy this book is? I don’t mind it at all; just wasn’t expecting it

Abby Jimenez knows what she’s doing. As romance readers, we’re so lucky

I’m always a sucker for a second chance romance. Nothing spectacular has happened yet, but I like what’s being set up

Oh, how I’ve missed 3rd person. I adore this kind of fantasy, where we spend time in the intricacies of the day and build clear characters. Not an ounce of info dumping, tension and intrigue from the first page. I’m loving this!

Sure, this may have won awards and been a breakout hit. I still think the writing and the dialogue in particular is painful.

Everything about the prose and narrative screams amateur to me 😬

Additionally, because I’m also reading the actual comic, it’s important to know he’s a lot more rape-y in the audiobook/novel
