Not entirely sure I’m in the mood for this. That said, when a new sapphic romance pops up on Libby at the start of Pride Month, you snap it up

IT’S TIME‼️

Seeing as I didn’t like book one, you’d be right to question why on earth I’ve picked up book two in the series. In a word? Cliffhanger.

In a few more? This series has crazy positive reviews, and I’m willing to continue giving it a chance.

If things don’t improve soon, I’ll DNF

My feelings towards this book aren’t great 🫤

There’s very little subtlety, we’re plodding along at a snails pace, and nothing exciting has happened.

Re the audio, I don’t approve of the casting. The narrator comes across as being middle-aged instead of a twenty-something

Wonderful narrators and a very sweet romance (with spice of course!)

He’s half orc, half human; protective, shy, and completely besotted ♥️

Terribly disappointing thus far. Shockingly repetitive. Oodles of telling instead of showing. Womp womp

Is it just me or are most of the plot beats painfully obvious?

I definitely should have tried to find a summary or refresher of the first book 😅

I’m winging it. Oops. Oh well lol

How did this book become so popular? Plenty of erotic explore taboo relationships and nonmonogamy. I’d venture that most are better executed than this one 😂

*casually picks up taboo smut years after everyone else had read it*

- this isn’t nearly as good as WTMH
- going into heat? Alrighty then 😂
- we’re not given much information. It sort of works. I’m more curious than I am peeved
- not a fantasy romance for those who hate toxic power dynamics lol

- everyone acts like teenagers instead of adults
- plot beats are painfully predictable
- there’s no magic, no yearning, and no true heat in all the places there should be

Strong start with a flashback, dull ever since 🫤 reviews are spectacular, though, so I’m holding out hope!!

Clearly needed more dragon in my life. Giving the graphic audio a try. How I love when my library has these audiobooks on offer 💃🏻

I’m obsessed. Evidence of obsession:
- listening at 1.4x speed or lower because I want to make it last
- feeling to compulsion to re-read it as soon as I finish it, which hasn’t even happened yet
- the characters. The characters!!!!
- all of this is deeply creative and well planned, with potential plot holes addressed (bar one)

HELP I CANT STOP READING

To anyone who’s already read this: did you also have a hard time picturing the locations & surroundings?

I’ve noticed this as a pattern throughout the novel; I’m really struggling to see many of the spaces in my mind

Even though it’s a tad overwritten, I’ve really been enjoying this! Exciting right from the off, we’re given information and worldbuilding as and when we need it. We learn about the FMC’s personality and psyche via showing, not telling (hallelujah). The plot is genuinely interesting. All in all, lots of good things to report

I know I say this all the time, but lord do I hope this lives up to the hype

Lagging between 55% and 75%

Lacking in character development, too. Livia has a few different aspects to her personality. Erik, on the other hand, is a classic Byronic hero—with nothing else to his personality

Why did I think the *point* of this book/series was spice? (That isn’t a criticism; there are excellent novels which are almost nothing but vehicles for erotica)

Anyway, colour me surprised to find out there’s plot and fantastic worldbuilding and—so far—extremely effective pacing 👍🏼👍🏼

Being a mood reader is such a silly experience. This audio has come up at least six times on Libby, and each time I’ve been all nahhhh.

Turns out, all I needed was for this to pop up immediately after finishing a dark, lyrical speculative fiction novel ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This requires major suspension of disbelief (what do you mean DOCTORS don’t understand biology) but it’s entertaining as hell lol

Here's what I'm expecting: beautifully written lesbian vampires. Other than that, I'm going in blind.

In the Roses of Pieria is a book I'd never heard of and I don't know a single other person who's read it. I stumbled across the blurb a few months ago while thumbing through Tantor's upcoming audios and *immediately* needed it. Finally, the ALC is in my (proverbial) hands.

I really hope this is a hidden gem

Rather slow start. I have faith, though!

I’m doing a lot of driving today and looking forward to learning how these two idiots fall for one another

Although we’re off to a good start, I can tell I’m not really in the mood for a contemporary romance. I also need a sure thing like I need oxygen so…

- Worldbuilding is sparse and confusing
- I can’t navigate the inconsistencies with character speech patterns (i.e contractions)
- incredibly odd sentences (“only because he could hurt my family hard if he wanted to”)

As usual, starting with high hopes 🤞🏼

The male narrator is familiar to me — he did an amazing job with Foz Meadow’s novels, so I’m eager to see what he does here

This entire time I’ve keep waiting to feel something 🫤

Other than some empathy for Grant, and aggregation at her parents? Nothing.

Noooooo now we’re getting bogged down by all these meta writers room conversations that feel WAY too on the nose
