I hate the term “book boyfriend.” However, without a good alternative, forgive me when I say that Archer is peak book boyfriend material.

Also, the mouth on that man 🫠🫠🫠

LMAO as soon as I typed that, they addressed it. A couple lines, nothing more🙃 Still a bit weird.

Audio thoughts:
- Troy Duran can be a bit hit or miss with me. In this, he’s at top form
- Morae Brehon has a voice quirk that grates on me. She ends the majority of her sentences, especially exposition, with a rising intonation. Not high enough to make everything a question, but enough to sound wonky

This is her missing sisters ex boyfriend, right? If so, how are neither of them feeling any sort of guilt or shame—I’d even take taboo excitement—after crossing that line? They haven’t said a word about that and that’s super odd to me

In my desperate bid to avoid a reading slump, I’ve picked up an angsty audiobook recorded in duet

So far, so good. It’s a spin off of her previous series (which I have not read) and there are references that go way over my head. I’m just rolling with it

(Continued) None of the character behave like real human beings. OH and what’s up with giving the hero and his family Hispanic names and then telling us they’re Italian?

Taken all together, I’m left to conclude that this is an author who has no idea what they’re doing.

Looks like I’ve jumped from one dud to another 😩 This is so poorly written, and so underwritten it’s shocking. For whatever reason, we’re on warp speed. We spend a few terribly awkward lines of the hero and heroine getting introduced, then BAM he’s calling her Pixie and acting like they’ve been together for eons. The thing with the sister equally comes out of nowhere and is also resolved rapidly. TBC

I’m now a quarter in and not feeling any more confident that this author can turn things around. It’s giving:
- she’s not like other girls
- self-insert
- should have been edited down significantly
- 95% telling, 5% showing

Folks, we might have my first DNF of 2025

So far there’s been nearly nothing except for exposition 🫠

I’m really hoping things change soon because all this telling and no showing is going to be the death of me

I preordered this audio based on the super high reviews of the book. It’s not exactly living up to the hype, but it’s still early days with their slow burn.

What I do like: Vasilisa’s is formidable, and how refreshing to make her a mega-talented hacker.

What I’m meh over: We spend half the time in Raf’s POV, and yet I can’t tell you much about his character. Rather flat and boring tbh

So far there haven’t been too many tells this book was written by an older writer.

I prefer more of a slow burn, but even still it’s pretty delectable

Eeeee this is so cute!!

Love how the author uses they/them for any character before preferred pronouns are shared. The hero is hard on himself and has some heartbreak to work through but omg is he adorable right from the jump.

The heroine is trying find her footing in a new life on a space station, and is equally adorable for both her reactions and her hang up’s.

I have a good feeling about this one

This is the second time I’ve tried to read this author and now I’m convinced is she VERY not for me.

The writing is clunky and juvenile, the insta-love will give you whiplash, and I cannot give you a single reason for why the hero and heroine should be together.

Oh, they’re attracted to each other? That’s all you get

What is happening?? It feels like there are missing sentences/descriptors and so I’m constantly in a state of huh??

Thoughts so far:
- wish there was more tension build up
- it’s fairly spicy but the impact is lessened by the lack of emotional investment
- other than finding one another hot, why are they together?
- overall, I’m disappointed and teetering on bored

Once you notice the narrator sucking in air like she’s been drowning, it’s impossible to ignore

Somehow this ridiculous 4-series book is still significantly underwritten. The author rushes through scenes of every kind — from the final run-in with Mr. X to the smut she’s been building up to since book one

I know I rated the first two books poorly. I still stand by that. However, I really need to find out how it all ends, so, here we are 😝

It’s 1 am and I’m struggling to stop.

After a slow start, I’m very invested. The tension between the two protagonists is 🤌🏼🤌🏼

Clever worldbuilding that is somewhere between magical realism and fantasy has me eager to learn more. There’s also a noir element to it, which I’m a huge sucker for

Samantha Brentmoor kills it as Teddy, and Jason Clarke, whose voice tingles my brain, plays Gus with a surprising amount of tenderness. It’s perfect

Yeaaaa I’m a big fan of these two

God, I love forced proximity 🔥

The tension is great, too!

I don’t really enjoy reading about characters who are so antagonistic. It’s not banter and it’s exhausting 😕

Really hoping these two get together sooner rather than later
