Great narrators and a forbidden romance? Yeah alright 😉

Strong start, pacing is wavering a bit

No clue why this book is so long, but since I’m listening to the audiobook, I’m willing to give it a shot

What am I missing? 🧐

The novel requires the same suspension of disbelief that most dark romance or mafia novels asks if their readers. Adding that to the romcom aspects (which make up the majority) results in something surprisingly fluffy

I couldn’t decide between a mafia romance or a romcom, and then I remembered this book existed

Short and smutty novella as a palate cleanser 👍🏼👍🏼

I’m sadly finding the character work quite weak. And I promise you, it’s not because of the use of 3rd person limited. There’s so much going on and yet I’m grasping at straws to find endearing qualities of the characters in order to care more about what’s happening to them.

In theory, I should be feeling a lot more than I am given the exciting premise of this novel

This has improved significantly. The magic system and worldbuilding, once you get your head around things, are low-grade fascinating.

The whole plot revolving around a brutal horse racing completion definitely has my attention.

Including Jewish-coded characters and how they’re discriminated against adds a needed layer of depth to the overall story.

And there’s a demisexual character 🥰

ngl the worldbuilding is heavyyyyy 🫠 It’s been difficult doing this without the physical book, highlights, tabs, and references. There are just soooo many names that mean nothing to someone new to the book

The insta-feelings is 🙄 but I quite like the characterization of our main couple

Nabbed this during stuff your earbuds days. It’s strange there’s only one narrator despite dual, first-person POV

Outside of the summer months, there’s a strong correlation between deteriorating mental health and my pathological need to read sweet, charming romance novels

I’ve been pretty dissatisfied with the bulk of the novel, but now, at the end, when one of two love interests finally out of the way, I’m LIIIIIIVING for the tension

It’s more of the same, but that’s exactly what I need right now

FOR WHAT? What the f does that accomplish? She is a 30-year-old woman. It’s shit that she dealt with so much tragedy growing up. But at some point, you need to take accountability for your life and your behaviour. Go to therapy. Work on yourself. Christ 🙄

When I read litfic, I expect to dislike the main characters. But when I read romance, I am supposed to like and root for them.

There’s messy, flawed humans still worthy of love and healing (10/10 I prefer these stories)

And then there’s petty, immature c-nts acting a fool.

Tell me why Delilah Green is falling into that second category??
