Me, My Shelf, & I > Recent Status Updates

Still not really sure where this is going or if I'll be into it. This section is getting more cozy.

I still find the male/female thing annoying, but the magical library and somebody is lying mystery are keeping me intrigued.

I am not loving the way she refers to all the fae as "the male" and "the female" with no other identifiers/names or even just instead saying "the man" or "the woman."

Kinda struggling to get into this still. While I like the allusions to British vs Irish history, I find a lot of the plot beats to be silly and cliche YA contrivances to build a romance and tension between the two MCs.
It's not bad, but it also doesn't fill me with any warm fuzzies and occasionally makes me roll my eyes.

"Hope is a hunter, and she is easy prey."

Dev - yet undisclosed disability rep, uses a cane and favors one leg heavily when walking without it.

"Paranoia is a guest in their home."

"And now you've made me squirt out a cuss."

It makes sense that this is the first in a series because it's a very slow start. 25% in and we're still assembling the crew and very much working on the setup.
Not really enough vampires yet. Or tea.

"Every good love story starts with a bullet to the heart."

Okay, so not only is this very young, but it's poorly written. The sentences are simple but fine, but the transitions between concepts are jarringly missing. We're in one scene or idea, then suddenly jumping to another.
And quite a few repetitive ideas.

Kinda standard so far, but definitely not an Adult book. This feels on the younger end of YA and is definitely going out of its way to make sure everything is stated simply to the reader

The mother of one of the girls (who doesn't yet have memories of what happened) just punched me in the gut.
They're planning to tell her what happened eventually, but not yet-- her mouth is wired shut and she can't scream.

I'm so bored, putting this down for now.

I appreciate how Kacen Callender incorporates gender and fluidity. But this book is really taking a while to give me anything to cling to. I know it's early days still, but I have very little world-building, character, relationship dynamics, magic, nor plot currently happening.

While I've been enjoying this and think the writing is lovely, I'm also starting to hit a point where it feels very repetitive and insubstantial.
Every time I pick it up again, I feel like the same thing is being rehashed
