VAMPIRE PIGEONS

This is giving DNF energy. Hate that for me. They're kind of friends now, I guess? Mostly they seem to watch movies together over the phone from their own apartments.
But I also think I viscerally recoil from MMCs who are born into privilege and their character growth arc is defined by learning to be slightly less entitled. No billionaire romances for me (or nepo baby chefs like this dude, maybe)

So far I think I don't like this? Neither of them are particularly likable, they have no chemistry, there's no interesting plot, and they've met each other a handful of times over +/- a decade.

honestly? this feels very young and I'm not really enjoying myself, but I'm also sleepy, have nothing better to do, and the audio's easy enough that I'll finish this in the morning
but I don't really care for the characters, they don't make smart observations or good choices, and the plot and world-building are kinda thin for me

I admittedly really quite enjoyed the funeral scene, but the author and I now have a disagreement about the inherent humor in a bunch of sentient dolphins shouting "Fucknugget" and "Fuck your fingers" and "Finger fuck!" soooo still considering DNFing.
(Also the sentient animals are feeling more gimmicky than interesting, but I guess only time will tell)

It's not as pronounced, but I'm still having issues with his writing like I did in Kaiju Preservation Society. The problem is that there are a lot of pop culture references (that I get, but he still feels the need to explain where they're from to his audience) and also that I think the tone is supposed to be humorous, but it's just not quite my sense of humor? It's a little too old dude needy and 'hello fellow kids'?

So far less focused and engaging than the first entry. There are more POVs and we're not spending a lot of time with what I consider to be the main characters, nor furthering their storylines.

I'm so sleepy. Why you couldn't you be a normal length book?!
