The first 30% was painful and I think it should really be cut entirely. The book is getting better now that most of those things are removed, but still so questionable why they were present at all.

I'm honestly really enjoying this so far. The Hebrew/Yiddish elements are homey, the writing is excellent, and I honestly just want to know how I can find more well written books like this. I loved Mary and I'm really enjoying this follow up so far.
