I am just not feeling the story and will set it aside. I am 2 hrs in. She started to give in to him, then backed off. He now has a grand seduction planned and is holding her home as a bargaining chip.

Her brother sold the estate because he was bankrupt. He must have broken the entail which I have heard of other situations being done. The fact that he offered to sell his title is entirely unfactual and cast an ugly light on the brother, but also the story since it showed DS either didn't do her homework or just didn't care because her story would fall apart.

The assertion that she could inherit nothing was incorrect, but laid the groundwork for the entire story. After she married and had a son, she claimed he was the next heir since the younger brother had died and the elder brother only had daughters. This wouldn't have happened unless they got a dispensation from the king and there were no other direct male heirs.
