I listened to this fast as it was about to go off availability on plus. This may be part of the reason I didn't like it as much. I love that Tommy is so very flawed. She doesn't even figure out the clue meant for her to decipher.

At end, Maria's cousin Freddie married an heiress perfect for him. It's the one that Nathan had been courting. They sold Maria's half of the business, setting aside part of the money for her family in America and the rest set aside for their children.

This mystery was regarding what happened to Richard Reed, a non-magician whose father was trying to marry him to Marrianne. He was experimented on at a psychiatric hospital trying to bring out his magic and they killed him and buried him on the grounds then planted a new rose garden over him.

Sylvia's mother was deeply in fear of someone finding her which was why they were always moving. She also taught Sylvia to distrust men. They checked and she was not running from the law. Plus it seemed that the person was still alive.

In hometown of last known silver magician, they learn she is in fact Sylvia's mother. No idea who her father is, but the paper magic is confirmed by Sylvia learning a paper strengthening spell. Her grandparents were killed in a fire in their shop a couple of years after Sylvia's mother left home. They collected the dead letters from post office intended for her grandparents.

Alex pours out her heart to Robert's twin, then later repeats the information to Robert even though he had a summary from his brother. The moonstone appears at the end when Robert tries to give her a crystal ball. Instead it is the moonstone mounted in a ring.

Twist: ex who stole her money came back 3 months after her wedding. He repaid the money he stole with interest or his brother was going to put him in jail. He first tried to get back together with Alex, then threatened to sue for breach of promise. Robert turned it back on him and the theft. Robert heard her say "Where were you 3 months ago?" and withdrew because he thought the house meant more than him.

Bran was injured during riot. Tam helped him mentally locate Merryn and they could mind talk. She led him to foil the French plot.

Tamsyn healed Merryn's mind after she arrived. The plot at the shipyard was multi-pronged. While Bran worked the crowd at the festival Merryn was re-captured but had some of her mental faculties this time. She has the ability to be invisible and her uncle was selling her skills to the Guernsey traitor captain who was trying to blow up a battleship. There was also an assignation attempt against base commander.

She is slowly regaining her memories and ability to speak. Starling was using ability to wipe her mind and make her sleep to keep her prisoner for some unknown task requiring her powerful gifts. Marryn can see visions of the future, summoned her horse from an unknown location, and saved Bran from being killed in Plymouth shipyard.

Bran arrived in Cornwall to a recalcitrant greeting from his birth father. His b-mother had not wanted to send him away. His birth sister may also be gifted but has been suppressing it. On second evening at dower house, he knew he needed to go into the woods to help. He found a distraught, confused woman there trying to hold off the search dogs. He carried her back to the house, but Crow came to see if she was there.

A graphite magician could read the hidden text on the special page and it implicated the husband of the author in the binders murder, the author's murder, and a robbery at a bank he had worked for previously. Writing with a graphite spell pencil on magic paper hid the words from all but a graphite magician. They used this in the war for secret messages.

A guy who worked for a thug was staking out the shop before the binder was murdered. They investigated the thug then the Thug's goons caused the car to crash. Gabe slowed time and rescued everyone before the car was destroyed. The guy discovered the murder and only looked up the silver supplier's information, then went into hiding. He was working for an unknown person who pretended to be an office by phone once.

The silver corner pieces have the initials JF for the now dead father of Marianne Fullgate, the last know silver magician.

After Sylvia prematurely returns the borrowed book, she & Willie steal another to complete the investigation. Sylvia has a deep connection to this book and determines she is a paper magician after it is confirmed to have paper magic. Later, she notices the magic on one of the pages feels different from the others

The bookbinder had the books for almost 30 years. He had just listed them in an auction to fund his retirement. The shop was ransacked, presumably looking for the books? They borrowed one of the books to determine the type of magic.

Willie got Gabe off his boat and back to save India. Chronos was dying and his magic was weak. Matt offered his watch to save the baby, then began dying. She had Chronos repair her watch which already held her magic since she was too weak. Together they put the spell in her watch along with Gabe's spell. Now both Matt and India survive by a magic watch.

Matt & India had broken Gabe out of New Gate prison and hidden him until time for him to flee to America. Coyle send Abercrombie to destroy India's watch and kill her. She was seriously wounded and was dying.

The goldsmith Gabe was using to make a wedding ring was killed. Gabe was framed. Lord Coyle used him to find other magicians. Coyle was going to force Gabe to use his magic to save himself from dying. Coyle didn't know India's magic was needed. Coyle was being poisoned by Hope his wife.
