I'm looking forward to reading this! As a kid I read the historical novel The Nine Days Queen by Karleen Bradford and I was devastated at what happened to Jane. The cruelty of her family using her as a pawn, the awful husband, the utter unfairness of it all. To be killed for becoming something she never wanted and was forced into! I need this retelling and to imagine a better ending for Jane. <3

Oyeh. This is feeling like a bit of a slog. :( I'm really unexcited to read it. Which makes me sad. :( Have I changed or has the writing changed? Actually it's just the System Collapse novella that's dragging, Fugitive Telemetry was a fun read. :) I think it's boring maybe coz the descriptions of empty dark hangars are excessively long and often. And there's a lot of extra useless words using "and/or" or "/".

Hmmm... I'm a little sad... I'm not loving this as much as I used to in previous reads. :( Mainly coz she is quite dense and long in her descriptions and I haven't been eager to pick it up. I first read this as a teen and loved it... did I skim the descriptions or do I have less patience now? 😳 But the story and characterization are still ah-mah-zing!! 😍

Argh. I'm enjoying this less lately. :( Like I don't look forward to reading it and it's starting to feel like a bit of a chore. The story is still captivating which is keeping me going.

Friedman's writing is somewhat dense and detailed, the kind of writing that usually slows me down but not her! I'm finding myself quite engaged and I'm going through it pretty quick. :) But it's reminding me of In Conquest Born... she likes to spend soooo much time with characters from competitive, backstabbing cultures. yuck. :( The Guild here sounds so much like the Braxana from the other book.

I LOVE Friedman's Coldfire trilogy! So I've been looking to read more of her stuff but I really didn't enjoy In Conquest Born. So here's hoping this one's more like the writing calibre of the Coldfire trilogy. :) And it likely is coz it's written around the same years. And so far so good... I'm totally intrigued and can't wait to learn more!

Man I am slow when it comes to reading non-fiction! It's been a year and I'm still not done. It's very readable and fascinating :) but I guess I just don't spend that much time on it.

Oh gosh I am not enjoying these. :( A lot of them have this similar writing style that is offputting. Usually first person and this abstract, esoteric style. And the characters never have names, rarely have dialogue. Nor much sex either! I'm starting to just skim read but I might need to just give up on this.
