Bardugo IS writing another heist story featuring the Crows but I'll be honest my excitement for it is rather minimal. And Fonda Lee has just closed off the Jade Trilogy and smashed my heart to smithereens in the process. So I will never feel this level of anticipation for a book ever again ✌🏽😔 Sure, my favourite romance authors are still in the game, but nothing gets my heart pumping like a good fantasy. And boy, was this a GOOD FANTASY.

My life my honour and my jade for Kaul Hilo, love of my light and fire of my loins. Such a fucking perfect study in contradictions, I wanted to shake him and also wrap him up in a massive blanket and hide him under my shirt. Fonda Lee articulates Hilo's emotions whenever he grieves SO WELL but also she followed the blueprint for characters that own my heart to the fucking T. So that's probably also why I was sobbing whenever Hilo mourned. And God, he mourned a whole fucking lot. My shirt was soaked. I was weeping for the whole Third Interlude.

I can't detail why I loved every character in Jade Legacy or we'd be here all day but I fucking did, so much. Minus Bero, who I can't fucking BELIEVE outlived you-know-who and you-know-who. Also I was so fucking ready to embrace Jaya with everything in me, but I was displeased at how little page time Lee gave her, considering how brilliant she seemed in the few concrete appearances she had.

Everything in this was plotted so fucking tightly and seamlessly, my head was fucking whirring and if I didn't have academic and physical obligations I would not have gotten up until I'd finished the whole book. More of those HOLY SHIT moments that I loved so much in Jade War. This book spans years, entire GENERATIONS, yet it doesn't slip for a single moment. And the ending, much as it broke my heart, left me content and simultaneously full and empty. The exact point could have been at a more deserving moment, I turned the page fully expecting a proper epilogue and then I thought perhaps pages were missing from my copy. Not sure Anden was the most deserving to finish off the trilogy with. But other than that I loved everything about this trilogy even when it emotionally abused me.

I'd love to talk to those reviewers who have called the Jade Trilogy *one* of their favourite fantasy series. PLEASE give me something to read that is as good as this. ...more "
