A: I looked it up, in three different dictionaries, and no, beggarly does not mean Scrooge-like. It means poor/impoverished/meager/meanly inadequate. Scrooge was stingy, tight-fisted, frugal, selfish, niggardly, or, more gently, thrifty, ---but NOT beggarly. He gave out a beggarly stipend, but he himself was not beggarly. B: What the fuck makes any of that a pun? I see nothing of a pun except the punishment of seeing an incorrectly deployed word, backed up by an unresearched statement of its meaning. Not even a small chuckle given, just a snort of disgust. Buy a nice used Webster's Unabridged and fucking use it, and not just for a doorstop. Mine cost me four bucks from thiftbooks, though that was some years ago. Amazon has used copies for sale as well. "Would you say I have a plethora of pinatas?" ... "I would not like to think that a person would tell someone that he has a plethora, and find out that that person has no idea what it means to have a plethora."
