4*. Before I begin, a trigger warning, but the same that goes along with the book itself: discussion of death, suicide & mental illness. Be warned. If you can't handle that on a personal level, this review may not be for you. (Or the book - but r ...more

I'm not sure whether or not to read this, since the incident described in the summary that gave Cassie such individual notoriety never actually happened that way - investigation and witness accounts since Columbine have proven that.

I would normally

4 stars. Definitely enjoyed this one! The epistolary style really makes this novel, as do the various unreliable narrators. It isn't a 5-star work by any means, but it certainly deserves some attention, particularly from anyone who enjoys comedy, mys ...more

3.5 stars. Not exactly my favourite in the series... I always found the reasoning behind the killer's pattern to be clearer than Christie makes it out to be, and the characters a little less sympathetic in nature, consequently making the earlier part ...more

3.5 stars. Bit too easy for me to identify the killer even when I didn't remember who'd done it, though the method is, as usual for Agatha Christie, always a little more difficult to work out, even on a re-reading...

Gail Simone
“If I am to die tonight, let me die a fighter.”
Gail Simone

Yvonne Aburrow
“The patriarchal/kyriarchal/hegemonic culture seeks to regulate and control the body – especially women’s bodies, and especially black women’s bodies – because women, especially black women, are constructed as the Other, the site of resistance to the kyriarchy. Because our existence provokes fear of the Other, fear of wildness, fear of sexuality, fear of letting go – our bodies and our hair (traditionally hair is a source of magical power) must be controlled, groomed, reduced, covered, suppressed.”
Yvonne Aburrow

Frida Kahlo
“At the end of the day, we can endure much more than we think we can.”
Frida Kahlo

Brian Selznick
“I address you all tonight for who you truly are: wizards, mermaids, travelers, adventurers, and magicians. You are the true dreamers.”
Brian Selznick, The Invention of Hugo Cabret

Anita Desai
“Isn't it strange how life won't flow, like a river, but moves in jumps, as if it were held back by locks that are opened now and then to let it jump forwards in a kind of flood?”
Anita Desai
