This is a good review. Did she improve from her 1st book In a Dark, Dark Wood In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware or is the style just so completely different?
I haven't read either but have an opportunity for Dark Dark Wood since Cabin is a loooong list.

Carolyn | 2090 comments Here is my review for another good holiday/beach read Stalking the Angel by Robert Crais 3★. Published in 1989 it's a bit dated and trying too hard to be slick but I like the characters and will try a few more in the series. Number 17 is due to be published in 2017, so the series is still going strong and I'm told it improves.

PattyMacDotComma | 818 comments Just read my first James Lee Burke, and I'm sure it won't be my last.

He sure can write! This is one of his latest, I think, The Jealous Kind, which paints quite a picture of 1952 Houston teens and crims.

The Killer Next Door by Alex Marwood
The Killer Next Door by Alex Marwood

This was a GREAT book to start the New Year!
Wow! I did NOT see that coming! Not in a million years! Great book! Imogene Church narrated this book above and beyond, again, as is her trademark. You really get to know the individual characters in the book whenever Imogene is telling any story. She can make you FEEL the emotions surrounding the characters, the intensity, the drama! Yes! Read it! Or, listen to it, in this case!

Someone asked a question about rating this book.... #1 being a book you could read to your children, #10 will give you nightmares. I would rate it about a 6. But, it completely depends on the person reading it, of course. which is why I normally don't do 1-10, but since it was asked... If your at all squeamish, I don't recommend it. It has mummification, people dying in various gruesome ways, including sewage. However, I wouldn't classify it as a horror level, either, not to the point of nightmares, anyway. Stephen King's Pet Sematary (read when I was a teenager, had nightmares, and still get the creeps!) And It, (I didn't get past chapter one, and put IT (literally) down immediately! I don't do well with dead animals, and I have a real phobia of clowns. But, again, that's me.

Having said that, the story line is fantastic, fast paced, full of suspense, and was unlike any other book I've ever read before. Which brings me back to the ending. Wow! I never expected the end! Never. And, I've read many, many mystery, suspense, and thrillers over a wide spread of genres, as most of you know. Alex Marwood will be an author I'll definitely read again! In this case, I would highly recommend the audio book version, narrated by Imogene Church. I think I got more bang for my buck hearing it instead of reading it. Either way, it's a great book! I, definitely recommend it!
