Terri | 19576 comments Being a cover admirer, I wish to know more! What parts are metallic coloured? All the orange as well as the writing and the sword?

message 352: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (drokka) | 2675 comments The orange section, the sword and the authors name are the metallic bits. The title is almost a patent leather look. The sword, the title, the edge of the 'paper' the title is written on and the authors name have been embossed as well. The binding edge (back) and the back cover are a reddish colour but not metallic.

Terri | 19576 comments Oooooo..that sounds sexy.

message 354: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (drokka) | 2675 comments Except it acts like a mobile device touch pad. It always looks greasy LOL

message 355: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Hha. Yes...but it is SHINEY!

message 356: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (drokka) | 2675 comments hahaha, it is that!

Terri | 19576 comments I think it is a certainty that these will be our winners.

Pompeii by Robert Harris The Hangman's Daughter by Oliver Pötzsch

message 358: by Bobby (new)

Bobby (bobbej) | 1375 comments Look forward to both of them.....nice selections. This will, of course, cut into my competitive reading time.

message 359: by Anne (new)

Anne (spartandax) | 797 comments I just ordered The Religion by Tim Willocks because I wanted to read it(already on my TBR list0 and because I have read "The Hangman's Daughter." So I will be able to join that discussion too.

Thank goodness for that!! ;)

Yes, there are a few of us who will be congregating throughout May in 'the losers' thread to read The Religion.

message 362: by Anne (new)

Anne (spartandax) | 797 comments I also found "Pompei" at the library and ordered it.

message 363: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments You are having good luck sourcing these May selections, Anne.

message 364: by Lia (new)

Lia (lia_mb) | 638 comments I voted, I lost....
Oh well, another opportunity to try Mr. Robert Harris writing. :)

message 365: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Lol. Yeah. Harris strikes it lucky this time. :-) Lost last time, but had better luck with Pompeii.

message 366: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments The results are in. These were your two winners this month (which we all saw coming)

Pompeii by Robert Harris The Hangman's Daughter (The Hangman's Daughter #1) by Oliver Pötzsch

message 367: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments I am going to be really, really fascinated to see how the votes land on the next polls....and to see whether the four I have settled on will excite the voters again.
Sometimes when I pick the four books I have one or two that I am not convinced with and I put ones in, take them out, on so on and so forth, for a couple weeks prior to opening the polls. This months, the June Group Read Polls, I have been settled on since I released last months polls.
Fingers crossed you all like the choices and that you can get the winners easily for the group read.

Two more days to wait...:-)

message 368: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Polls will go out today (tonight for some), you feverish voters better have your voting brains in. I am hoping that yet again your decision will be a difficult one. :-)

message 369: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments People may, or may not, have noticed that one of the books in the June Group Reads Ancient Poll has two titles.

For those that don't know, Prophecy has an American release title of a different name (I hate it when publishers do that).

In most countries I believe it is called;
Prophecy Clash of Kings (Merlin, #1) by M.K. Hume Prophecy: Clash of Kings

In the US it is called;
Battle of Kings (Merlin Prophecy #1) by M.K. Hume Battle of Kings

Terri | 19576 comments Group read polls were a little quiet this month. I wonder why that is. In fact I have noticed through my profile's updates that Goodreads in general has been a lot quieter this month all round.

Change of season around the world has people less active on the site?? Or just one of those lulls that happen from time to time?
As a member if this site for over four years, it does happen. Ebbs and flows, ebbs and flows. Sometimes the site, and certain groups (ie ours) are quiet, then they get busy again.
Who knows why this happens, but it looks like May is one if those months where things are quiet.

message 371: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments Dratted quiet, I've thought last couple of days.

message 372: by [deleted user] (new)

I haven't been around here all that long, but it has seemed less active lately.

message 373: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (last edited May 12, 2013 12:56PM) (new)

Terri | 19576 comments I have thought the last week or so. It was back then when I was wondering why it was a bit quiet in A&M and how I could change that and I realised I had barely any new reviews or updates from my GR friends on my profile and os it wasn't A&M, it was the whole site that was quiet.

Maybe everyone is off getting their tax done. :-)

message 374: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments Admit I haven't voted, it's too tight and I don't have a strong enough pref to risk swinging it.

message 375: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Lol. Well I would try and cajole you into an Insurrection vote because I can likely get the author to join us on the group read discussion. ( Robyn Young) .but it is two votes behind Iron King, so it wouldn't make a difference. ;)
It would need three votes for Insurrection to get it into first place. Heheh

message 376: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments Open to bribery.

message 377: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Hmmm....lets see....I have some pumpkins grown in my Dads garden....might be expensive to post. Plus there's all those quarantine rules at the border..

All bribery I can think of cost me too much money to post to you. I have books for example that I would post you. :-)

Me too, Terri. it is already on my TBR list.

message 379: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments You want Insurrection to win too, Anne? Is that what you mean? Or that you want a Pumpkin in the mail in exchange for a vote as well. :D

message 380: by Anne (new)

Anne (spartandax) | 797 comments I want Insurrection to win.

message 381: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Oh, okay. *puts pumpkin back in larder*

message 382: by Bobby (last edited May 12, 2013 05:50PM) (new)

Bobby (bobbej) | 1375 comments I'll take a pumpkin!! Damn already voted.

message 383: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments haha. Oh well. You are no good to me. I am looking to bribe people who haven't voted yet. :D

message 384: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Unless Insurrection (The Insurrection Trilogy, #1) by Robyn Young gets another 3 votes to overtake The Iron King, then it looks like our two group reads next month will be..*drumroll*

Prophecy Clash of Kings (Merlin, #1) by M.K. Hume The Iron King (The Accursed Kings, #1) by Maurice Druon

Two very different reads there.

message 385: by Lia (new)

Lia (lia_mb) | 638 comments If the author for Insurrection Insurrection (The Insurrection Trilogy, #1) by Robyn Young will join the group read discussion, I am willing to change my vote.

message 386: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments I have no doubt she would, but it is too late I'm afraid. The Iron King got another vote so Insurrection would need 4 more votes to win.
Maybe I can run a different Robyn Young book in the future so she can come join us for the discussion on that one.

I just changed mine, now it only need one more vote to take the lead.

message 388: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (last edited May 12, 2013 09:17PM) (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Oh wow! Someone else must have voted too!

Come on. Come on!!! So close!!

:)

message 389: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Now where's Bryn...although I still am not sure what we shall do if there is a tie...read both I guess. yikes. Three group reads for me in June?? :[

message 390: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments Under no pressure whatsoever, I voted.

message 391: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments hahaha!!!

Oh boy, I better deliver one lady author then..no pressure there either...

Still one day to go in voting though. Anything could happen. *bites nails*

message 392: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments No pumpkins changed hands.

message 393: by Bobby (new)

Bobby (bobbej) | 1375 comments I should have changed my vote the other way and then held out for a pumpkin.

message 394: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Bryn wrote: "No pumpkins changed hands."

This is true. :)

message 395: by Anne (new)

Anne (spartandax) | 797 comments Don't care-I plan to read "Insurrection" anyway.

message 396: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (last edited May 13, 2013 03:00PM) (new)

Terri | 19576 comments We can all read The Iron King too in the loser thread. But I can't get that author to join in if it wins. :(

message 397: by Bryn (new)

Bryn Hammond (brynhammond) | 1505 comments Never mind.

message 398: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Insurrection won!.....oh boy...now I have an election promise to deliver. :-)

message 399: by Terri, Wyrd bið ful aræd (new)

Terri | 19576 comments Our books for June.

Prophecy Clash of Kings (Merlin, #1) by M.K. Hume Insurrection (The Insurrection Trilogy, #1) by Robyn Young

I do believe this will be our first month where both group reads are by female authors.

message 400: by Anne (new)

Anne (spartandax) | 797 comments Terri wrote: "Insurrection won!.....oh boy...now I have an election promise to deliver. :-)"

Yay-both my choices won. Now if my library does not have "Insurrection" I will definitely mhave to go the ILL route.
