Monthly Group Reads Polls and Voting
Simona wrote: "I am shocked Terri. You obviously bribed our famished members with pumpkins.I'll be reading Druon all alone, I don't care anyway *dries her tears*."
It us true. :( I tried bribery. When I saw that most of the time only one vote seperated the two books, I thought, well, maybe I can try and get Robyn Young involved or at least get an interview on our blog to go with the read like I did with The Hangman's Daughter, whereas The Iron King. Mr Druon has unfortunately passed.
But we have our losers thread. And I will mention in the group broadcast message that anyone wanting to read TIK will find 'likeminded' souls in that losers thread in June. :-)
Phew, thank goodness I didn't let the team down.I sent an email to Robyn Young's agent to invite Robyn to the group read discussion and to do a blog interview and they replied and said she would 'be up for it'. Thankyou Rupert Heath!!
I did panic for a second yesterday when I saw no contact for Robyn Young on her website. Then I saw her literary agent and went through that channel. Which is the channel I went through for my Oliver Pötzsch blog interview.
omg. I have just had a complete brain explosion for next months Medieval Poll selection. I can hardly believe my audacity and daring. You just wait and see what I have picked and what I have put up against each other.
I wanted to make it a really good one because July will be 12 months exactly from when we first started doing themed (Ancient & Medieval) group reads in A&M.
This could be my greatest triumph!! :D
...and of course by 'next months' (for those new to the polls) I mean the Polls I will run approx the 6th of June for the July Group Read.

Something tells me this is going to be another of those "I can't decide" polls.
Terri wrote: "omg. I have just had a complete brain explosion for next months Medieval Poll selection. I can hardly believe my audacity and daring..."I am just popping with anticipation. And laughing my head off. Then she wants us to wait quietly for two days??

I repeat myself: you are a tease!
...what if we collect some nice pumpkins to give you in exchange for an anticipaton of the timeline...? :)
oohhh, a woman after my own heart, at least! what kind of bribe you had in mind? pumpkins? aubergines? zucchini? cherry tomatoes...?
I'm beginning to understand how you'll achieve that 10 year paid hiatus to catch up on your TBR Dawn. ;)
Hahaha!! So funny. I see Dawn may have a price at which she can be bought, and it comes in the form of cold hard cash not fruit and vegies. She's so much smarter than me. I was already planning on making Minestrone with Simona's selection, and finishing it off with Anne's offer of a big cake with buttercream frosting. Meanwhile, Dawn's thinking about booking a flight somewhere with her bribe money. Was it to be? Spain or Bora Bora!
I have a plan....haha hehe.....10 years sounds so nice. And very good guess Terri (or did I tell you?), Spain it is. What do I want with beaches when there's history to see?? :)
With some significant bribe money I could go in January 2014, without..I have to wait until January 2015!!
It was a guess. I thought 'hmmm..where would Dawn go that was big enough to tour for weeks with lots of architecture and history that she hasn't already got booked' Spain! :-) Bora Bora...has a lot of WW2 history (there's still cannons there from WW2) as well as fishies and stuff. :D
It's gonna be Spain, Portugal and Morocco. A little more exotic than previously. :)Have you seen the political strife in Turkey?? How am I supposed to see Istanbul if they break out in civil war?? Them and Egypt need to get their butts in gear so I can start planning...... :D
Now I'm all deflated. So high off my daring Medieval Poll, that I am struggling to put together an Ancient Poll that is even remotely interesting. I have one sorted out, but it is hard finding a matching Ancient read. :(
Want it to be good too. Because of the 'July being 12 months since we started theme reads' thing.
The POlls are open!!http://www.goodreads.com/poll/list/54...
I hope you get a kick out of the TWIST in the medieval poll. It makes me giggle I am so excited by it. :D
Nice surprise Terri, I have wanted to read that Conan Doyle for a while. I hope it will win so I will be able to have it as a buddy read. AND Pressfield! Mmm...a really tasty booty!
I have been wanting to read those two Conan Doyle's for a while too. If it loses (which I'd say it will) at least I will be able to see what everyone thinks of The Last Kingdom.
Yes, when I voted Conan Doyle didn't seem a winner. These last months I've been sticking with the losers..it's a dirty work, but someone has to do it!

The only reason Insurrection won was because I promised to deliver an author.
When the books were so close in that race I thought, well, group is split so close on this one, maybe the winner should be the one I can add an 'author experience' to which would be fun for members.

Yes, but you can pick which Conan Doyle you want to read or read both. That's why I mentioned it in the Group Message I sent out. So people would not be daunted by the size of the two books in one.
If it had have won, I would have had three group read threads running. One for Sir Nigel' one for The White Company and one for the winner of the Ancient read. Then people could read both or pick one. I would have read both, but if my schedule got squeezed i would have picked one of the two, probably The White Company.
As I watch my friends vote I notice those couple of 'Last...' titles. I'm a sucker for 'Last' titles and voted for both.
Bryn wrote: "As I watch my friends vote I notice those couple of 'Last...' titles. I'm a sucker for 'Last' titles and voted for both."lol. Mate, it sounds like you are a glass half empty kind of girl with your gravitation towards 'Last' titles. :D
Yes, I even read The Last Man by Mary Shelley in her post-Frankenstein career. He was the only dude in the world at the end.
Great Scot! We have ourselves some winners!! The two we all knew were going to win after the first 24 hours.
Hahaha!! That makes me want to hurry up and post them. I was going to have another cup of Earl Grey and some peanut butter on toast for breakie first....:/
Alright. They are up. I will send out the group broadcast after I make my tea and toast, but the polls are there and they are open for voting now.
