Monthly Group Reads Polls and Voting
Me too. I will have to buy Eaters of the Dead.It is worth noting, for those of us doing both reads, that Eaters of the Dead is only a short book. About 280 in the most popular edition I think.
I want to read 'The King's Spy' but my library doesn't have it and seeing that I am currently racking up a large credit card bill I don't think I'll be buying it right now. :(It really is a pity.
There was some discussion about the two medieval books. That they were hard to find in Canada.Your library had Traitor's Blood didn't it?
Terri wrote: "Closing for a MONTH. Ouch, that's harsh."I know. I may just go crazy in that time with a massive shortage of books. :(

I can get it by ILL, there is only 1 in the entire province though.
I'm really happy with both book. I own "King's Spy", because I found a bargain, but it's the Italian translation. It seems quite good though.
I looked at the author's website the other day and noticed he was posting about there being an Italian translation. That helped me choose the book for the poll...because it was available in more than just English.
Well, not really this time. This time I am not taunting you all with the next poll. :DThis time I was being purely innocent, as the poll is ending in a few days.
I have clicked the BUY button on Eaters of the Dead. I now own it. I bought it from The Book Depository, so it will be a couple weeks getting here, but at least I own it now and don't have to worry about doing an Inter Library Loan on this book.
I bought this cover
I would not have been happy if you had gotten the last copy. :)I like the other cover, but as you would have noticed, the one with the other cover was the dearer of the two.
I am going to have to buy The King's Spy as my library can't purchase it so I will probably end up buying that one. But I can get the other one from them.
Bronwen wrote: "I decided to go with the recommendations and buy Eaters of the Dead from the Book Depository, which turned out to be cheaper than Amazon Japan. Let's see how long it takes to get here. :)"Ah..an experiment. This will be fun. For me, in rural Australia, it takes two weeks. Nearly on the dot it will show up.
Interesting to see how long it takes to get to you.
Tasha wrote: "I am going to have to buy The King's Spy as my library can't purchase it so I will probably end up buying that one. But I can get the other one from them."Oh, disappointing. On the upside, it looks like a lovely book to own. Pretty cover.
Or will you ebook it?
Wow. I just checked and the ebook costs as much as the hardcover. What a rip off.At least the paper book is really quite reasonably priced.
I may actually buy the real book (The King's Spy) then because I can then at least either trade or donate it.
Tasha wrote: "I may actually buy the real book (The King's Spy) then because I can then at least either trade or donate it."Hopefully you will love it and not want to trade it, but kep buying the series as they come out. :)
Been hard picking the next 4 books for polls. I think I have settled on them though. There is one in the Ancient pairing that I am unsure of...Being January the books should herald a good start to Group Read Polls for the year, plus everyone is getting used to being in a new year in the first place, so I need to try and channel what you all might be in the mood for. Lol! You are such an eclectic bunch so it isn't easy. :-)
Plus I don't want the books to be too similar to the books in the last poll....
Decisions decisions.....
Ideally, each month there would be 1 book in each poll that I already own and in much need of attention, and of course, despite being such an eclectic group, these would win. :POf course, I'm certain I'm not the only one in this predicament so the odds of this occurring are next to nil, but it's a consideration, should you ever be at a loss... heh
Hahaha. Hmmm...Welll...fingers crossed I have picked one you own. I think I've had some luck with that, although they haven't always won for you. :-) I was going to put up this one in the Ancient poll..but I don't think it is on Kindle/ebook. Which was very disappointing. I found it, then when I logged into Amazon it wasn't there and I am thinking it may be available in ebook form in the US, but not everywhere else.
Hate to disappoint, Terri, but one doesn't interest me and i can't get the other. Hopefully the Feb. reads will be easier to find.
Which ones do you mean, Anne? Do you mean the ones this month? Unfortunately this will happen. 1100 members now...there are going to be hits and misses with all the members who might want to do the group read. So it is okay, I understand there will be some members disappointed with the winners, and some happy with the winners. If you mean the Sister Fidelma book doesn't appeal, don't worry. It won't be in the poll...maybe in a future one, but not this one.
Yes, there's been quite a bit of luck with that. Of those, I think most have won, but 50% were ones I'd already read...lolI did enjoy most of the books that I bought though, so in terms of the choices on offer you've all done well.
Plus you succeeded in having me read some about Rome that had naught to do with gladiators, a feat of its own.
:D

Romans. Pah! It seems, when I look for books for the Ancient Poll that rate well on GR, I am beset by Romans at every turn! All roads DO lead to Rome in Ancient HF apparently.
NEW THREAD ALERThttp://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...
It is for those who wanted to read a book in the polls and it lost. Members can now go ahead and read the loser/s and comment about it in this new thread.

Okay,I am settled on the poll books for this next poll. It should be another interesting group of books for everyone.I will probably do the polls later today. So hold onto your hats people! The very first Polls of 2013 are on their way!!
Did everyone get their Poll message in their inbox?? I broadcast the poll announcement to all members, but nothing appeared in my inbox. Even though I send the message out, I usually get one too.
Terrific. Maybe GR has changed it so I don't get the message to my own inbox. Phew. I had a panic when it never showed up in my inbox!
Terri, I have a suggestion to make. When you are giving us out poll books to vote on, could you put the author please. I found two books under the title "Tyrant" and I read "Attila" by William Deitrich, and there are several "Attila's" as well. Thanks.
Anne, if you click on "comments" when viewing all the polls, it should then show more details of the poll including the covers of the books which you can click on to go to the book page.http://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/77... - That should say "This Poll is About" with the books underneath.
A couple of months ago I clicked on the title and that showed me as voting for that book. Been cautious to do it that way again. Maybe I clicked on the wrong link.
Took me a while to figure out these polls too and what to click and where to see which books of the title they are. I just about manage now but by roundabout methods.Do we need an instruction sheet or...?
Yes, exactly what robin said. Click on the 'comment' word and it will take you to the books showing covers. Also, please be aare that you can change your vote at any stage. For as many times as you woukd like.
In the case of the Ancient Poll. Tyrant and Attila. If you are not sure which books they are, just vote, then the next page shows you the book details.
Check, the books out there and then click 'change your vote' to vote for the one you really like after you have checked them out.
Hope this helps guys.
Just always remember. Your vote is not final. You can change back and forth as much as you want. :-)

Well I am calling it. Unofficially. Poll still open of course, but it looks like these will be our winners.
Good choice, folks. I voted for Eaters of the Dead. I did not vote for The King's Spy (I voted for the other one Traitor's Blood), but I am still happy to read The King's Spy. :)
