Out of curiousity...which Eagle cover do you all prefer.
or this one
I personally like the red guy on white field and I think that is the cover that is most common right now.
Terri wrote: "Out of curiousity...which Eagle cover do you all prefer..."Red sad figure on snowed-out white - I like it very much. It'd tempt me in.
I also like the blue cover. I'm not sure which one I'll be getting from the library, it depends on which library I get it from.
Hmm..that makes two liking each cover.that doesn't help me decide which one I should put up on the group's main page if it wins. Lol
I may have to stick with the blue cover as that is the one most people recognise. But then, the other cover is eye catching and might entice members who were never enticed by the blue cover....oh.. what to do. :-)
I am thinking about buying it from TBD too (never again Fishpond after their screwing me around this month). I was going to ILL it from the library, but like you, I have to own the red cover.
Amazing isn't it that it was written in 1970 and yet it is still so popular today. And the covers are still so in fashion. Whoever is in charge of selecting the current covers is doing a good job.
My library has "Outlaw" and the one about Attila. So I guess I will be readcing those, even if Attila does not win. I also found another book by william Dietrich on my "to read" list and put it on hold-LOL.
For what it's worth, I prefer the white cover with the red on it. It looks better beside the Outlaw cover, it matches the title better, plus I like the feeling of the red. It looks bloody and I love battle scenes. I usually gravitate towards blue covers but that white and red is far more eye-catching, imo. ;D

Fishpond blah spit

But the reviews were awful on it. So I ended up going with The Scourge of God instead.
Darla V wrote: "For what it's worth, I prefer the white cover with the red on it. It looks better beside the Outlaw cover, it matches the title better,.."I usually go for blue covers also. But there is something unique about the red on white cover and i do like a unique cover. :)
I have settled on the Poll books I'l be putting up in the December polls. :) I am POSITIVE that you will have a tough time working out what to vote for!!I have ummed and ahhed over it. Wanting to make sure you get some good ones that won't be too much hard work over the holiday season. And yet I wanted them also to be good enough to entertain you all, while you are laying by pools, on beaches, or on the lounge fat from overeating, or whatever, during the December holiday season
As always, I shall put the polls up at the end of the first week of next month (November in this case).
Thankyee. *bows* :)We have had some close polls that have surprised me (because they were so close and I had not expected it).
This time, I have no doubt we are in for a tight race in both polls.
I really wanted to vote for Vlad but my library does not have it. I figured this was a good incentive to read it but I am NOT disappointed with my second choice of Agincourt. :)I went with Gates of Fire because it's a GREAT choice!!
I voted for
and
I have read Memnon and Gates of Fire and I decided that I may do a reread of Gates of Fire.
I voted for Azincourt because I have been meaning to get to it for agggges. If it wins, there is my excuse not to put it off any longer.
I would happily read Vlad if it won though.
Oh, those were all hard choices. It was tough, but I voted for one each. :) I'll have to join in on at least one of the group reads next month. I'm not sure if I can swing both books, but I will try! :)
Hi Jenni,Don't worry, most members do one or the other in the group reads. I sometimes do both if I can fit them in, but even I can't always fit both in. :-)
Glad the voting was tough. That was my sinister plan with these ones. Especially the Azincourt/Vlad poll. Both extremely popular books.
Hi Terri and Dawn, is the vote closed by mistake on the Medieval/Later? Not that I mind, means Azincourt's won!
I voted for Gates of Fire and Agincourt. If they win I'm gonna join the reading. Memnon seems interesting enough for me too so I won't mind reading this either, plus I am curious about The Persian ways.
That glitch has gone - might have been me, my machine has gremlins tonight. I too voted for Gates and Azincourt. Heavy-duty battle fare seems in order.
Bryn wrote: "Hi Terri and Dawn, is the vote closed by mistake on the Medieval/Later? Not that I mind, means Azincourt's won!"Hi Bryn, I just saw your post. No it wasn't your gremlins..it was this gremlin *points at self* . I stuffed up the date on the Medieval poll. *blush* fixed now, as you saw. :-)
Did you vote for Pressfield? Your updates show you only did the Medieval poll.I can guarantee good reads if Pressfield and BC get up. :-) i have not read Azincourt......but...it is BC....and everyone I know who knows their stuff tells me it is a decent read. :-)
Terri wrote: "Did you vote for Pressfield? Your updates show you only did the Medieval poll."I tried, but like I said, my computer tonight... I'll make sure, thanks.
I would have love to read "Vlad" but my library does not have it. I think it has the two winners. I'll have to recheck when the time comes.
They are really so close, I would not want to say who will win.ON the first day, Vlad was about 4 votes in front of Azincourt. Now it is 6 behind. It may change back the other way again, who knows. :)
Not much difference between Memnon and Gates of Fire too.
Unless there is a last minute flurry of voting I think it's become obvious our winners will be Agincourt and Gates of Fire.
Looks like it. Two excellent choices. Gates of Fire is one of my favourite HF books, and I finally have the reason I need to get to Azincourt!
Sounds good to me! I saw Agincourt at the used book store for under $5 but my library also has it, so i think I'll end up just borrowing. Looking forward to the read and looking forward to reading the discussion on Gates of Fire!
Still a day to go (US time), but I am calling it. I cannot see the winners currently, being different in a few hours. The group reads in December will be...*drum roll*
excellent choices folks!
Tasha wrote: "Are yu thinking about retreading Gates of Fire?"I am giving it small thought. I have so many books to get to that I think whilst I want to reread it, I doubt I will have time.
I will be able to join in the discussion though and I have the book so I can look through it to see where people are up to etc...
I will be reading Azincourt though. As that won't be a reread.

Luckily I am not a gambler. And with only 5 votes between Eagle in the Snow and The Scourge of God I would not want to write off Scourge yet.
