Regina (reginar) Enjoy!!!!!

message 153: by D.G. (last edited Mar 27, 2012 08:52AM) (new)

D.G. Man, I'm all over the place. I usually have 2 books going at once but now I have 4.

Yesterday, I picked up from the library How to Be a Villain: Evil Laughs, Secret Lairs, Master Plans, and More!!! and couldn't help but start it right away. Needless to day, I've been laughing hysterically in almost every page.

message 154: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments I haven't gotten my copy of the book yet. Shame on me.

message 155: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I can't wait! mine should deliver today!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I'm starting Lover Reborn (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #10) by J.R. Ward too. :)

message 157: by Aoibhínn (new)

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) Right now I'm reading Blue Sky Days by Marie Landry. I got it free as one of those read & review things. I'm 5 or 6 chapters into it so far and it's pretty boring. the novel is not very well written and its meant to be a YA romance novel but the main characters who are 19 & 22 talk like their in their 60's! And if that wasn't bad enough, the love story is far too unrealistic, so I'm finding it very hard to connect with the characters. I think this is one novel where I'm definitely going to struggle through it.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) That stinks Ellie.

message 159: by Leea (new)

Leea I'm loving Lover Reborn... only 120 pages in but Tohr is breaking my heart.

message 160: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Me too, Leea! We're about at the same spot in the book.

message 161: by Leea (new)

Leea I didn't expect so many emotional moments. Even John M. and Xhex are so sweet.

Our T-Ball game was just canceled so it's early bath so I can read more :)

message 162: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I am excited -- I am about to start!

I finished First Grave on the Right (Charley Davidson, #1) by Darynda Jones , I put the audio of The Magicians by Lev Grossman aside for now and am listening to Tomorrow, When the War Began (Tomorrow, #1) by John Marsden

I just finished reading The Return Man by V.M. Zito and I liked it! Very unique take on the zombie plague and definitely written by a man. I plan to start Lover Reborn (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #10) by J.R. Ward

message 163: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments I have a few books to read before I can get to Lover Reborn (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #10) by J.R. Ward . That pretty much bums me out. Enjoy ladies!

message 164: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments I'm taking so long trying to get through The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins !

I have a test this week but I'm going to try and finish it before we watch the movie on Saturday.

message 165: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Are you liking it?

message 166: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments Yes, it's actually more interesting than I thought it would be.

message 167: by Leea (new)

Leea After seeing the movie on Sunday I really wish I would have done a reread before watching it. I loved the movie but a few things that they changed really made me mad.

message 168: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments What did they change?

message 169: by Leea (new)

Leea Well, I don't want to spoiler anything for those who haven't seen the movie... (view spoiler)

Overall, I thought they did a great job. I can't wait for the next movie.
What's the next book to movie coming out?

message 170: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) For me, it's Warm Bodies.

message 171: by Leea (new)

Leea Oh yeah!! I can't wait for that? When does that come out?

Okay, do we know who the next book will be about? Talking BDB here :)

message 172: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments Oh I remember now Leea. Looks like a should have done a re-read too. Lol!

Have you ladies seen the trailer for The Host?

message 173: by Leea (new)

Leea No, I haven't read that book. But I hear it's good.

message 174: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments I started reading it a couple years ago but it was confusing so I put it aside and got wrapped up in other books. I wanna start it up again. It was interesting but I was kind of lost.

message 175: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I loooved The Host. Didn't know they were making a movie out it!

message 176: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I haven't read The Host. I've heard so many people say it's good, and better than Twilight. But I just can't bring myself to pick up another Meyer book.

Leea, about BDB, she says she'll announce who the next book is at her opening in a few weeks to celebrate the release of Lover Reborn. BUT, she did hint that she was excited and that her Publishers ROCK. Which leads me to believe it's Qhuay, because they were the ones nervous about her making a Qhuay book. But I could be wrong...

Right now Warm Bodies says it'll be released Feb 1, 2013. So far away, lol. But it's the next one that I'm really excited for. It's decently casted, I think. Not blowing my mind like HG, but decent. John Malkovich is going to be Julie's dad.

message 177: by Leea (new)

Leea Can we all say this together... "QHUAY... QHUAY..." If she holds off anymore it will not be good for the series. Those two are destined to be together - dang it!!

Also, in this day, what publisher would care about that 'subject mater' really?

John Malkovich... he's great! Not sure if I see him as Julies dad but he's a big actor.

message 178: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Thats kind of how I feel about Malkovich. I actually see him more like M. Whatev, the director is good so I'm hopeful.

I swear if she doesn't do Qhuay, even just a novella, I'm going to freak out! I guess they are concerned that people who aren't fans of m/m would skip the book and miss out on some of the world building and plot forwarding. That's why they wanted a novella, so if people skip it they don't miss anything important. I think that's dumb logic, because fans are going to skip any book they don't want to read for whatever reason. For instance, I know of MULTIPLE people in the BDB group that not reading Lover Reborn because they're protesting what Ward did to (view spoiler). You can't control your fans, you just write the books and let them fall where they lie. I'm hoping they came to this realization!

message 179: by D.G. (new)

D.G. So true, Wendy. Although I wonder how you can do the story justice in a novella after all this buildiup. I mean, the Qhuay saga has been going on for 5 books!

message 180: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I haven't read the Host b/c like Wendy I can't bear to pick up another Meyer book and b/c I heard it needs a sequel but there is no hint of her writing it.

Readers should never drive a series. The author has a vision -- she needs to woman up and just write it and screw the fans who don't want to read that. I agree Wendy, it is dumb logic.

I hate to say this and I don't want to hurt anyone'se feelings, but I dropped out of the BDB group b/c it seemed so contentious and so many sides were being taking. I will say this though, Ward has created a world that people feel very strongly about!

And won't they continue to be a couple? Does that mean she will short change them? She should take some cues from her friend and author Suzanne Brockmann. Suz just wrote the gay couples and romances in to her books -- full novels they are featured in. And the only novellas she writes for the series center on the m/m romances. Her new PNR series has a m/m couple and the scens are explicit. Ward and Brockmann are colleagues and supposedly friends, I would love to hear them discuss this issue.

Word! An author that lets her readers direct what she writes won't last long. You know what they say...you cannot please all the people, all the time!

message 183: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) So I think that Tomorrow, When the War Began (Tomorrow, #1) by John Marsden may be my most favorite series ever. It may be rushing to say that since I am only 20% into the first book. :) But damn, I love this set up for an apocalpytic event and the narration is so good, it is done by a young Aussie woman so she sets the scene perfect. The series takes place in Australia.

I am only about 10% in to Lover Reborn, but I am loving it!!!

Exactly. :) Well said.

message 185: by Leea (new)

Leea LOL!! D.G... word! I agree! I'd have more respect for Ward if she took a stand and wrote the book that needs to be written. I'd back her 100%.

If you took a snapshot of any community not all of those would be heterosexual. It's not reality and it makes the story not as read, IMO. Plus the relationship between Quinn and Blay as 'Brothers' and then the other BDB take on that relationship would make a great story. We know that JM does not care.

message 186: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I added that book to my audible wish list, Regina. Sounds really good!

message 187: by Leea (new)

Leea I can't wait for your review Regina. I'm also loving LR... JM, WOW!

I agree, a Novella isn't going to do them justice at all. Though someone pointed out that in a Novella they'd get just as much page time becasue there won't be any other POV's to share with.

I left this group for the exact same reason! I got so sick of all the one sided conversations, and started to feel like differing opinions didn't matter. But the clsoer I got to Lover Reborn the more I missed the tidbits and gossip and the stuff that I thought was fun, so I went back. The funny thing is, nothing seems to have changed. The same people are still oging on and on about the same topics, so now I only go into like 3 or 4 threads, and avoid those topics completely.

I have strong opinions about books too, but I say my piece once or twice and then try to not keep going on and on. It alienates members.

message 190: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I think that is a smart strategy -- staying away from the bruhaha and not getting drawn in to the discussion. I admit that I do read the threads at times, I just don't post.

message 191: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) LOL, I did that too.

message 192: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Talking about audios...the narrator for this book I'm listening is TOTALLY HOT!

message 193: by Leea (new)

Leea That makes me want to listen. There is just something sexy about some mens voices... I like raspy smoker with a little drawl. haha!

message 194: by Leea (new)

Leea Okay, I want to post some stuff about Lover Reborn but I don't want to spoil anything... Where is everyone at the book? I'm about half way through, 298/574 Chapter Thirty-Seven.

message 195: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I'm on page 261/574. Eeek...it's just getting good. I'm at work today and trying to read when I can.

message 196: by Leea (new)

Leea Yay! So many things I want to chat about...

I have to say for those worried that Ward wouldn't give Wellsie the right amount of respect for being Tohr mate for 200 years... I think she's doing an amazing job.

message 197: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Boo! I'm only on page 64, lol. I can't sneak and read a big hardcover book at work the way I can read my Kindle.

message 198: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Should we take this over to the BDB thread?

message 199: by Leea (last edited Mar 28, 2012 01:39PM) (new)

Leea Yeah! I was being lazy... like usual :)

message 200: by D.G. (last edited Mar 28, 2012 01:41PM) (new)

I don't mean his voice...I meant his looks! I mean, his voice is nice and all but the man is really good looking.
