Leea Kay, just okay? Oh man. I was hoping it was a good one.

message 802: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I was hoping too, Leea. It was just ok and nothing to hit out of the park about. It was still a sweet love story though.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Okay, I'm just over 30% into the book and it's not feeling as similar anymore. I'll probably try to knock out a big chunk before bed because tomorrow's going to be another busy day.

message 804: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Oh good. I'm glad it's not that similar anymore. I really liked McKenzie and the men in the book and i thought the love triangle was done well.

message 805: by Leea (new)

Leea Oh, that's great! I'm going to start this to morrow.

Kay, what are you going to read next. I really want to read Kristen Ashley's The Burg series. I've heard great things.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I really want to get in some historical romance over the next week or two. It feels like it's been forever since I've read a good HR. A friend of mine unexpectedly sent me a couple of series, Raven Prince and something else. I'd have to check.

message 807: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I have no clue what to read next. I'm not sure what I'm in the mood for. I'll sleep on it and figure it out tomorrow.

Stacia, I really liked The Raven Prince. That author writes really hot & sensual love scenes.

message 808: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Apr 19, 2012 10:40PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I'm trying to decide between The Raven Prince (Princes Trilogy, #1) by Elizabeth Hoyt The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie (Highland Pleasures, #1) by Jennifer Ashley and To Taste Temptation (Legend of the Four Soldiers, #1) by Elizabeth Hoyt . The Four Soldiers was the other one my friend sent me and she highly recommended it. I got Madness somewhere else.

message 809: by Leea (new)

Leea I've only read The Madness... I like it, not your traditional HR by any means and It's funny.

Raven Prince has been on TBR list for a very long time. Sorry, i'm not much help.

message 810: by Mimi (last edited Apr 19, 2012 11:48PM) (new)

Mimi Smith | 94 comments Stacia, I've read all three, and liked The Madness the most. It's different, original and has a cast of very interesting characters. Plus Ian is one of my favorite heroes ever. Top five, with Jamie, of course, being first. One of my favorite HR.
As to Elizabeth Hoyt, I preferred her Prince series to the Soldiers one.
Hope that helps:)

The Burg is my favorite series by her. It's darker and has more pain and suffering... But the humor remains and the men are still hot. For me it was a good combo :)

message 812: by D.G. (last edited Apr 20, 2012 03:58AM) (new)

D.G. Of those 3, my favorite is The Raven Prince. I'm one of the few that just thinks that Ian is OK.

I'm liking The Shadow Reader (McKenzie Lewis, #1) by Sandy Williams more because things are not as simple. I think it was very naive of McKenzie to get in a middle of a conflict between two races that she knew nothing about. Now, it wasn't her choice but after a while she shouldn't have believed everything Kyol told her hook, line and sinker: They're the bad guys and we're the good ones! Look how many horrible things they've done! Like horrible things don't happen in both sides of a war (as we've seen in the news lately).

Also, I don't trust Kyol. A man who strings along a woman for 10 years is not honorable and she should have realized that and moved on. I could understand how she made that mistake at 16 but at 26 she should know better and get a life.

Now that I am more into Shadow Reader, I don't think it is similar to Dark Swan, although I only read #1. I am liking Shadow Reader alot more than Dark Swan.

I agree it was naive, although she was only a teenager - -and it sounds like she was really sheltered. When I was reading it, I kept thinking -- maybe she is insane and this is all in her head? LOL>

LOL, Regina! That would be a good twist. :)

It made sense that she would believe all that non sense when she was 16 but she should know better now, specially when they didn't let her learn the language!

Oh good. I didn't really like the Dark Swan series. I love Mead! Just didn't connect with Eug.

I can't wait!

message 820: by Leea (new)

Leea Mimi, That's what i've heard about The Burg Series and I can't wait. Not sure about Rock Chick, there are like 7 of those (I think)

I should look up which books Kristen Ashely wrote first? Her writing improved from the Colorado Mountain Series to Dream Man.

message 821: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) A friend and I always joked that the story of Harry Potter was really made up in his head as a result of the abuse he suffered -- he created this rich fantasy world while living in the "cupboard." :)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I'm avoiding spoiler details. About 75% in and I'm feeling like McKenzie is all over the place. Instead of holding firm and observing things, she's going from side to side in her mind and jumping to conclusions. I understand that she has every reason to question things now, but she's going for whoever is more convincing at the moment, instead of taking her time to investigate and think things through.

I've read The Raven Prince, which I loved. Like DG, I really wasn't into Lord Ian and I didn't continue reading anymore of the series. However, I do like the authors Shifters series.

LMAO! I really needed this laugh this morning since my Friday morning felt more like a Monday one. I was running all over the place trying to get the kids ready.

message 825: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Glad to help Kay! :) And I completely relate.

Stacia you are farther in than me. We have sports games every night -- 2 a night right now and I am going home and doing more work afterward, so my reading time has been limited.

message 826: by D.G. (new)

D.G. What I don't understand about Mckenzie is that she seems to believe that the edarratae is the reason she'a attracted to Aren. But if that's the case, she would be attracted to all the male fae not just him.

Everything I learn about Kyol makes me more suspicious of his motives. (view spoiler)

message 827: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 337 comments I've read The Raven Prince (Princes Trilogy, #1) by Elizabeth Hoyt and it wasn't anything special to me. Kind of fell into the bunch of generic historical romances, or maybe I just have a bad memory! As for The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie (Highland Pleasures, #1) by Jennifer Ashley , it was a little different in terms of how the hero is, but again, nothing to rave about! Haven't read the rest of either series, too.

Sports are in full swing here. At least the boys are on the same team this year. The weekends are busier than the weeknights. My one son wants to start swimming and when I said, sure. My husband said I was a glutton for punishment. lol! Soccer is coming...

I haven't been able to read much at all this week. I do hope to still start Shadow Reader today, i'm way behind.

message 829: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Swimming is so important to learn. So I understand that completely. Do you mean lessons or on a team? My kids will take lessons this summer. Thankfully #1 is now good enough and old enough to not be in lessons, but the other 3 will be. This is my tomorrow/Saturday:

9:00 tball for my #2 son
9:00 religious ed for my #3 daughter
1:00 tball for my #3 daughter
2:00 piano for my #1 daughter
3:30 piano for my #3 duaughter
4:00 traveling soccer game for my #1 daughter (an hour away -- so that means I am taking #3 to piano by bike)

Sunday:
10:30 husband soccer game
11:45 #1 softball pictures
12:00 #1 traveling soccer warmup
12:30 #1 traveling soccer game
12:30 #3 tball pictures
2:00 #1 traveling soccer team meeting
2:00 #2 tball pictures
3:00 #2 tball game
3:00 #2 tball game

Tired just from reading? 3 softball/tball teams -- 2 games each a week; 1 traveling soccer team -- 1 to 2 games a week; 1 adult soccer team. Plus religious ed for two kids, plus 1st communion classes for 1 kid (luckily both religious ed and 1st communion classes end next week); piano for 3 kids. I cannot wait until the middle of June. This stuff happens every night/day of the week. My husband and I are constantly consulting the calendar. mid-April to mid-June is horrible. This never happens any other time of the year. Then add in birthday parties and shopping for those friend presents. End of year presents for the teachers. Just kill me. Please.

In two years both #3 and #4 will be on the same tball team, it will happen only once ever. They will also be on the same fall soccer team that year. I will love that year.

message 830: by Leea (new)

Leea WOW!! Good thing i'm not having anymore kids because just doing what these two need is enough.

Regina, that's a killer schedule. How many teams are you team mom or your husband helping. That's what makes it harder, when you coach to team or are team mom/dad becaues you can't just sit there and enjoy the game. Well, that's at least my experience.

The boys need swim lessons this summer and Garrett (4) wants to be on a swim team. We have a swim team for our neighborhood, so he can just swim at the oclub. Ethan want to play hockey - Kill me, lol!

I want to personally join a softball team but there is just no time left. I miss it so much.

message 831: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) You should do it and just have it on the schedule. It makes such a huge difference for my husband to play soccer.

This year we are "only" coaching one team. Come fall, I will coach a soccer team and my husband will coach two teams. Next spring, he likely is going to be coaching two teams - - one baseball and one tball.

Very cool you have a neighborhood pool.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) We'll probably be a little crazy over the summer but not nearly as much as you are. We want to get Silas into sports and he'll be starting preschool. Thankfully, we only have one child to shuttle around. The older one has friends who all drive.

I don't know how you guys do it with multiple kids.

message 833: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Regina, you are SUPER MOM...especially b/c you work full time, have 4 kids and also find time to read all these books. I'm just starting to get my toes wet since my son is now old enough to start participating in stuff this year. I hope to be like you one day!!

message 834: by Leea (new)

Leea I should do it! Jim's going to coach soccer next. We play on a team with a whole bunch of the kids friends. It's the same 3 dads who coach and it's so fun. Although, Garrett will be on a different team. Ethan also wants to play chess... he's 6. Yikes!

We use Cozi.com, family planning cal. It's awesome! You can even have texts/email sent to members of the family with updates.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) D.G. I don't know if I was ever really (view spoiler)

I will wait to talk about the rest of book until you guys are done. I hustled to finish up today because we have plans for tonight and part of tomorrow. Most of my thoughts about the main points of the book are written down already though, so I can reference what I was thinking if I forget too soon (which I do sometimes, it's sad).

message 836: by Leea (new)

Leea I agree, Regina you're amazing!

message 837: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Leea, I use Cozi too! I LOVE it. Our elementary school has two chess teams #2 and #3 are on them, so that is nice how that owrks out. LOL -- I am also being a brownie leader next year and a division cordinator for soccer. Why do I do all of this? Because I have encountered so much stuff that irritates me, I find it is easier to take on the burden to do stuff and have some input. Or maybe I am just flipping insane. I still have young kids mixed in with older (almost 4, 6, 8, and 13) -- so I anticipate getting burned out eventually. :) I am waint for Gabriela (12) to make a choice. She is really really good at both softball and soccer -- and actually loves piano. She will sit down and play for hours just for fun. But eventually, the kid has to eliminate a sport. We can't keep doing this. She wants to try out for a summer traveling soccer team. To do that she has to commit to being available ever single day in July. Nah, we ain't doing that.

I do the same thing. I love being part boys school and sports. A few friends keep enouraging me to be on the PTA board. You know I wont hold out for long, lol! Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Drink coffee until it's late enough to drink wine? Oh that picture so fits you, doesn't it???

message 844: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Hahaha, I love that motto Leea. In fact, I am going to go to Starbucks right now.I have started a really bad habit of having a glass of wine every night. Just one. And well, it has only been three days. But I so look forward to it. It used to be just Fridays and Saturdsays.

message 845: by Leea (new)

Leea That's why I didn't take offense when you posted that picture in TPR... it's true. I don't want you guys to think I have a problem. I'm a 2 glass of wine max. kind of girl. Although, tonight with my girlfriends, because we have a DD, I might go all out.

My husband will buy me Starbucks gift cards... I don't want diamonds or expensive shoes...nope just coffee. lol!

Oh, we almost bought tix through our league since it's Little League Day with the A's. I just didn't think we'd be able to do the chalk talk at 8:30am and then the parade later before the game. It would be too hard with holding the baby the whole time. I hope you have fun!! It should be lots of fun.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I get a Starbucks gift card in my stocking every christmas.

Did anyone else see the news story about Starbucks using ground up bugs for the pink coloring in their Strawberry Frappuccinos?

message 848: by Leea (new)

Leea Kay, that would have been crazy! Yeah, we're taking out t-ball team and the boys are so excited but they are both walking so It would really be hard to hold a baby for that long.

message 849: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Ummmm, no!!!!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) We were watching Colbert Report the other night and he was talking about the news stories about the bugs being used as coloring for fraps and fruit cups and stuff.

I know this means they're safe to eat but it's still disgusting...similar to the pink slime controversy with the ground beef.
